Default Psion Teklogix adds Java(TM) technology to its netpad(R) tablet from Tao

Psion Teklogix, (LSE: PON), a global provider of rugged mobile devices and wireless LAN system implementation and support, today announced the adoption of the intent(R) universal media platform from Tao Group to bring, among other features, the fastest and most advanced Java Virtual Machine (JVM) capabilities yet to its netpad hand-held computing tablet.

intent enhances Psion Teklogix's netpad product by
increasing its speed and efficiency, combining multimedia tools with flexibility and high-speed performance, and enabling applications to run
with a common look and feel irrespective of which version of the O/S is deployed in the device. The newest netpad, with a choice of integrated
802.11b or GSM/GPRS radios, provides mobile workers in a wide range of markets such as track & trace, field service and mobile sales with the most
fully-featured and rugged mobile device currently available.

"Having Tao's intent featuring on the netpad is great news for the mobile computing world. Users can now benefit from a wider number of applications,
and the greatly increased speed means higher productivity and reduced costs," said Raf Jezierski, Director Mobile Computing, Psion Teklogix.

"We have been building our relationship with Psion Teklogix, both individually and as part of Symbian, for around two years," commented Francis Charig, Chairman & CEO, Tao Group. "Combining our award winning technology with the robust and innovative netpad device enables Psion Teklogix to exceed the expectations of the mobile computing market and
deliver the benefits of Java technology with an unparalleled performance footprint."

The netpad is an extremely easy-to-use tablet, with a 1/2 VGA (640x240 pixel) touch screen, portrait and landscape display switching capabilities, four-way navigation button and two programmable function keys. It is engineered to perform in tough indoor and outdoor conditions, can withstanda drop of five feet onto concrete, can be submerged in three feet of water and provide workers with a full shift on a single charge. All netpads are available with either the Windows CE .NET or Symbian operating systems, are compatible with a range of software solutions and can be easily integrated with other Psion Teklogix wireless devices.

intent's high-performance software, which is hardware-, operating system- and language-agnostic, includes unrivalled audio and graphics capabilities and is now the ratified VP architecture & kernel API standard platform of the Open Contents Platform Association, an organisation formed by world leading technology corporations in 2001.

Pricing and availability

I thought the PSION Series 7 already had JAVA support? PSION is a damn good PDA company. They have
just been a bit slow of late. I love my little PSION 5 though I wish it was a 5mx. I hope that DE
can run on something PSION cause I feel loyal to them now.

Well they are sort of. They just make small computers now. The series 7 was a bit bigger than the average PDA. It was like somehting inbetween laptop and PDA.

It looks like they are doing software much more than hardware.
