Default Realistic CRT Emulation - capturing the 'feel' of Amiga graphics

Hi to all,
just read a very interesting article, which details how students have emulated the look and feel of low resolution / low refresh rate CRTs on modern LCDs.

http://www.digitallounge.gatech.edu/gaming/index.html?id=2824

The code is apparently being incorporated in an Atari VCS emulator but will be freely available. Several Amiga games and demos used effects which relied on the fuzzyness of televisions and low-res monitors to hide the low resolution. Anti-aliasing is one example.

Hopefully a kind hearted developer will add this effect as an option to Win-Uae and E-Uae. It'll make ECS (and even AGA) based games and demos look much more authentic! Of course for productivity, we'll go back to our ultra sharp - crystal clear screens!

Good Day to All

Good find! I guess we just have to keep pointing Toni in the direction of Stella... Or find the actual research paper, and find out exactly what the emulation does :-)

Personally I really enjoy the sharpness of old Amiga games (like Superfrog) on an LCD monitor, but I know where you guys are coming from. VICE (a popular commodore emulator) has a PAL TV emulation that looks really amazing and authentic. I love it!

I quite agree, but it is true that Amiga Games were not meant to be played on an LCD... So some kind of CRT emulation would be nice to recapture the old days.
