There is almost what you want already in existance. Only difference is it plugs into the 68000 socket rather than the A500 side-car slot.

CFIDE68k
Heh, brilliant. I'd buy three of those (2xA500 + CDTV) :-)

In particular I like the note on possible future versions.

Further in the future: Add RAM (8M x 16 DRAM), some flashrom (maybe 2M x 16, 512K x 8, or a serial eeprom/flash), another IDE-connector(s) (for 44-pin laptop drive?), CompactFlash and a clock-port-connector.
Yeah, adding RAM is an obvious thing to do - then it would for all practical purposes render the GVP HD+/HD8+ obsolete - add flashrom for rekicking and an ethernet chip and it is _the_ ideal A500 upgrade :-)

Should be quite doable, huh?

How doable would it be to also feature a "hood" to plug it over the 68000 on the A600? Would be cool to have such a card to be used on all 68000 amiga models.

Afterwards, do the same for CD32 and A1200 :-D

Not at all doable.

Why? Because the CFIDE68k (and the IDE68k) pretend to be the A600's internal Gayle IDE interface. If used in an A600 there would be bus conflict.

But it doesnt matter as there is the NedoPC 8Mbyte board available at a VERY reasonable price of $40 and of course A600 has PCMCIA for ethernet and has IDE built in.

Heh, would you believe it - for a moment there I forgot about the internal IDE of the A600(!) - you are quite right, the NedoPC card is good enough.

For me ideally in the future:

(Assuming anything goes and Jens finishes Clone-A)

- New motherboards made to replace A1200 and A4000D
- Reimplemented Amiga chipset
- 060 fitted on-board
- SCSI controller (A4000D only, A1200 fine with SATA/IDE)
- SATA controller
- Improved IDE controller
- Indivision style graphics built into the video output
- Accelerator slots kept in anticipation of 'cheap' new accelerators being built in the future (also so they work with old PPC accelerators)
- Lower power consumption due to almost everything being integrated
- 16mb Chip option standard
- 512mb Fast option (using only one SIMM if preferred)
- Zorro controller on A4000D kept
- PCMCIA on A1200 kept and improved
- Amiga and PC mice/keyboards work natively

Note: Some may question keeping the accelerator slots but I don't think it's necessary to have PPC on-board only as an optional extra.
Ok. I am going to try to post this ONE more time without getting logged out.

- New motherboards
- Re-designed custom chipset in sockets, not soldered on the board

- Full 060/50 minimum, PPC preferred...on the board that can be swapped without the need for an accelerator board

or

-Core2Duo 2.5 GHz if going with Intel

- SCSI controller with RAID as an option (Must support 15k RPM drives)
- SATA II controller with RAID option on the board
- ATA-133 IDE controller standard

- If going with AGA Graphics, include an updated "Amber" chip on the board to fix the flicker...don't require the purchase of a separate flicker fixer.

or

Use Something like the NVidia NForce chipset for on-board graphics...1024x768 minimum resolution with 3D support

- 400 Watt power supply minimum with leads for modern graphics cards
- 128 Meg Chip option standard
- 1 Gig Fast option (using only one SIMM if preferred)
- At least one Zorro controller
- PCI slots
- PCI-Express slot
- PS/2 or USB Keyboards standard
- USB 2.0 and Firewire on the board
- Gigabit Ethernet port on the board

Just some ideas. Must have Video Toaster/Flyer support though in my world. :-D

I would like to see an Amiga PDA, or smartphone. Maybe even do reverse emulation (Windows Mobile running in a VM on an Amiga). Wouldn't that be a trip. Amiga was doing emulation before anyone else, so why not?
