Default A600 Floppy Question

I have a quick question about the A600's floppy capabilities. Is it possible to remove the DD floppy drive and replace it with a standard high density floppy drive? My understanding is that the 600 IS compatible with high density drives, but I just want to make certain of that.

Thanks!

Maybe you should wait a little bit longer than 2 hours 50 minutes for a reply ... you know, give those people who aren't here 24/7 time to reply

BUT ...

AFAIK ... no you can't

Jeez m8, less than 3hrs and no response doesnt really deserve a bump.

How are you defining a 'standard HD floppy'? PC one and an Amiga ones are different beasties so I think its doubtful.

I wasn't going by the time since I posted the question, but rather the number of views the thread had. Didn't ask for comments on that.

To the question at hand....are you guys sure you can't use a high density floppy with the 600? I swear I read somewhere that you could.

I'm defining a standard high density floppy as any high density floppy you can use with the Amiga.

As far as I know, yes, you can use it, but it has to be an A4000 disk drive, or a hacked PC unit.

Standard PD HD floppies won't work, as Paula can't handle the data stream as fast as it would be needed, so C= used a disk running at half speed in the A4000 to do it

Won't work, but you can modify some HD drives to work as a DD drive.

Any (I said ANY!) Amiga computer (even the A1000!) can use a HD floppy drive. That's not a 'maybe', that's a statement!

Problem is grab an unit capable of doing so. Peecee HD floppies (in the wast majority) can't be used as HD floppy drive in Amiga systems. The step motor must be capable of spinning in 150RPM instead normal 300RPM DD floppies do.

That are a few units who can do it. Google a little. I already have a known Amiga HD floppy at home, but nobody sends me the necessary information to modify it to Amiga standard.

...I remember to read some article about using a second magnet to fool the sensor at the drive and meke it think it was running twice as fast..
I think it was on the Aminet. I will check my stuff to see if I still have a copy
