It would seem your 2620 already has the right ROM version, if the A2000 is running KS3.1 already. Knowing what you want to use it for, I'd say stick with the A3000. It's got a faster BUS, can address more Chip RAM (depending on the Agnus), can take PPC accelerators if you want in the future. (I know the PPC Dev board will run on a Cyberstorm MK III, but what are the chances of ever buying one of those??) Has the built-in Amber, so no expansion slots taken up for that. On-board SCSI means no expansion slot taken up (although there seems to be issues with that, so you might want to add a better scsi card, if you want more than one scsi device hooked up.. like a hard disk AND a CD-ROM). Can have 18MB RAM with no expansion slots taken up (depending on Agnus), as opposed to 512KB or 1MB on the A2000. Probably newer than your A2000 so battery might be in better shape. I think the only real challenge would be the need for an external CD-ROM. All the 'expansion room' for the A2000... will you use it? Will you get a fast serial card? A genlock card? Sound card? If you will, then maybe the A2000 would be a keeper, but then you have to have how many slots already taken up just to make it a usable machine? tiffers |

I don't know much about your A2000's accelerator.
The A3000 uses static colunm (as opposed to page mode) 1Meg x 4 zip chips. The chips will have part numbers ending in 4402. New chips are hard to find. Used chips (pulled from some device) are easier to find. However, spend time straightening the pins perfectly, they break off easily. Insert the pins carefully to make shure they don't bend. Inspect the pins with a magnifying glass. The page mode chips look identical but end in 4400, you don't want these. EDIT: I think Software Hut might have a supply of used 4402s. Amigakit might be worth a try as well.

I would junk the 2000 and keep the 3k as it is a far beter choice "for me " . The 2000 did not last long in my house ..

Still, this should not matter unless you desire to have a 386/486 bridgeboard and support cards at some time. Those really suck up slots leaving maybe only one extra for an RTG card or NIC. |
