A500 is acting funny. It was displaying some graphic corruption on the boot screen. I pressed everything down and it removed the corruption. It booted OK to WB1.3. But it acted funny, would seem to be fine but the screen would blank after I tried to load in some programs. I removed and reseated the Denise chip, which may have been a bad idea, now I get nothing except a blinking power LED. I dont have color output so I cannot see the color it might be displaying to indicate the problem.
It is a steady blink by the way. I am expecting a RGB -> VGA adapter soon so I should be able to see color shortly... any help?

Hammy,
As far as I can remember, the LED blinks in a sort of 'morse code'. The combination/time period between each 'blink' is an indicator as to what is causing the fault. I'm sure that there'll be details on Aminet somewhere. Many years ago I had a blinking LED - the sequence indicated to me that it was the keyboard controller chip that had died, but I can't for the life of me recall whether this caused my Amiga (500+) not to boot. Note down the sequence and have a dig around Aminet - hopefully you'll get lucky and nail the problem.

Whenever I remove a chip and re-insert it, if it doesn't work, it's usually me putting it wrong (wasn't paying close enough attention because I thought it was such a simple task), or I bent a pin (not enough lighting, and I didn't visually inspect each side to see that the pins are inside the guides).
So, maybe check your Denise again? Perhaps it's one of those two above... Otherwise, lookee here: http://www.amigahistory.co.uk/selftest.html Also, last time I had my A500 flashing, it was 11 times (last one being longer) and I also had a green screen, which was due to a couple of fried RAM chips: http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=20817 Good luck! |
