You probably don't want to here that it's easier to get hold of the PC version and run it through DosBox right? :-D
Ok then. under the "Hardware" tab: CPU: 68EC020 Fastest possible, but maintain chipset timming. Chipset: AGA Cycle-exact CPU and Blitter Collision Leve = Full ROM: I use my old Kickstart 3.0ROM image from my A1200, rev 39.106 RAM: Just set the "Chip" to 2MB and nothing else. Floppy drives: Insert no more than the first two disks, randomly crashes when i used more :-( It'll then take an absolute AAAAAAGGGGGE to load. Be very patient I mean it literally took 3 minutes or so. Good Luck and welcome to Amiga.org Andy |

The amiga version of syndiacate stopped working for me the moment I added an accelerator card ;-)

There were also 2 different versions - one that worked on the A500 (and nothing else) and another version for all other machines...

Use WHDLoad for accelerated Amigas. I play the Mac version in ShapeShifter; it's more like the PC version which is better than the Amiga version to be honest...

Having played both the PC and amiga versions to death, I can actually say they are utterly identical except for: PC menu screens are 320x200 256 colour, game screens are 640x400, 16 colours. Amiga menu screens are 320x200 32 colours, game screens are 320x200, 16 colours (pity they never used 32 at least, but I guess they were working to pretty severe limitations). PC version has basic OPL FM music and a few additional sound effects. PC version has more visual variation in map tiles, vehicles and in game characters. There are also some slight gameplay differences: The scanner in the PC version doubles the range visible in the map at the bottom left but has no other effect. In the amiga version, the range stays identical but the targets become coloured to indicate their type. On the PC version, they are always coloured by type. Also, on the PC version the homing signal appears as a circle radiating from the target as opposed to the directional indicator in the amiga version. In the amiga version, unused shields will regenerate over time. They don't appear to on the PC version. You can reload all weapons for the current agent in the mission preperation screen by right clicking reload. You have to do it one at a time in the PC version. The game AI appears to be completely identical. Which is good, if you know how to exploit it (you can do the atlantic accelerator mission with two agents and no losses then) </syndicate geek>

I thought the PC version also had 640x480 menus?
Anyway the Mac version is exactly like you describe the PC version above. I think the music and higher resolution graphics with more car and tile graphics makes it just a little better than the Amiga version. About the shields; in the Mac version the shields regenerate but only if you don't deplete them totally.

Syndicate wars had 640x480 menu screens. Syndicate itself used 320x200, identical (except in colour depth) to the ones on the amiga version. They also animate as they open and close.

Mind you, I still had to reinstall it a few times because it just refused to load after a good few months.

I completed the game on my A500, but after upgrading to a 1200, I found it IMPOSSIBLE to complete one of the missions.
The A1200/030 runs soooooo fast, it is really quick to get through the missions, until about mission 30, OTTOTH it is Kamchatka(?). In the mission, you have to rescue a civilian who is being held in a military facility. I can never shoot or draw out the guards without them shooting in my general direction and killing the hostage in the crossfire. Not even when on degrading to the '020 mode can I pass this mission! Aaaaaaaaaaargh! Ahem. benJamin "So, anyway. How was your day?" |
