Default Null modem the next Gen ?
Hi,


I got a PC mobo with no serial port what so ever.

Saw on eBay this :

USB to DB25 Female Parallel Printer Cable Adapter


Can I use it as a null modem for PC <--> Amiga 500 Transfer ?

Parallel cable isn't going to work for serial. But a USB->Serial adapter and then a null modem cable should.

Hi Godfather,
When I originally transfered all my ADF's over to my HP laptop in 2004, I only had USB's on my HP. After researching the possibilities, I ended up ordering the "Belkin USB to PDA" adapter...essentially a USB to 9-pin serial. It required special drivers etc...(all included) and a db-9 to db-25 null modem cable for Amiga Explorer. I managed to save all my stuff off the A3000 before it finally sizzled. It required some tinckering with baud settings...and took the typical hours of disk swapping,but it worked great!

I got an usb to serial adapter (with drivers) and it works fine with AmigaExplorer. Unlike my usb to pc joystick interface....

Simple USB -> gameport adapters require USB capable joysticks (similar to USB -> PS/2 mice adapters). There are bigger 'converters' (~$15) that enable analogue joysticks.

Probably better to buy a decent USB joystick though...
