I'm not sure if these are the real deal or not (never owned a machine that needs them).

Can someone verify?

DMAC eBay

Ramsey 04 eBay

I know the last one is earlier revision.

This is not always the case. I've got no troubles with the older versions of DMac and Ramsey.

@ral-clan

What rev. A3640 do you have? My A3640 rev. 3.1 has no problems with DMac 2 and Ramsey4 I stated before.
However, you won't get lucky with an rev. 3.0 A3640.

Okay, NOW I'M really CONFUSED! This guy says in his auction

Quote:
This an upgraded version of the DMA controller chip used in the Amiga 3000 and Amiga 4000 computers. It fixes some issues seen when running with 68040 accelerator boards like the A3640 (see my other auctions for one of those).
But you guys just got finished chastising me for thinking that there was a DMAC in an A4000 and informed me there was NO DMAC chip in an A4000! :-?

@ral-clan

There's NO DMac chip in the A4000. Period.
This guy on eBay didn't do his homework right.

you know, another option is to get 3.1 roms. The 3.1 roms do not need the newer ramsey for the a3640 3.1 board to work. I have used this before.

Hi, yes I have 3.1 ROMs installed. To clarify: I have no problems running the 3640. My problem is incessant SCSI unreliability. Checksum errors and the like no matter what hard drive I used. Everything is terminated properly.

Did you try with a previous version scsi chip ? maybe WD-33C93APL 00-08 has some issues with the 3640. Maybe WD-33C93APL 00-04 would be fine ?

also some drives on amiga work best with passive cable terminator rather than trying to use on drive termination. I use this method on all my amiga and no problems. also make sure your cable is in good condition.

I am using passive terminators. One on the drive and the other on the external DB25 connector. It gave me errors both before and after I tried this.

sadly, this was one of the chief reasons I eventually stopped using an Amiga on a daily basis - I got an A3K all tricked out with PicassoIV, scsi, etc. and then a month or two later i'd start seeing all the HD errors, etc. So then I sold that computer and built up a nice A2K, similar specs and used that for a few months, then it started all over again.

ultimately I got sick of it, used Amithlon for a while with no issues, but the problem there is next to no sound implementation and limited support for really custom Amiga apps like Scala, etc. that hit the classic hardware directly in some cases, so ultimately I gave up and started using Linux, and now FreeBSD - which has its own host of limitations and nowhere near as fun to use as an Amiga, but definitely better than WinBlows, so at least that's something.

The only Amiga that I've seen run consistently day in and out is my A2K webserver, which has pretty much been online next to 6 years+, straight since March 2000 when I launched the site. But it has no graphics card in it and I've only used it for handling the site, so maybe that was related, not sure.....

frustrating, to say the least....
