Default PAL A1200 in the States.

Need some opinions on this.

I am looking for an A1200 and its looking like all the deals are on PAL models from the UK.

Anyone in the states using PAL Amiga's? I know I can't use the PSU, but can I still use the PSU from, say, a NTSC A500? I know that works with a NTSC 1200, just wondering about the PAL version.

Also, what about monitors? I know this has been discussed before, but it would make sense to have a PAL machine since most all the good games and demos were of Euro descent.

So, any US Amiga users running PAL equipment?

Thoughts?

I'm running several PAL Amigas here in Canada, and with the 110v PSU there is no electronical difference. They all work fine.

The only physical difference between PAL and NTSC Amiga motherboards are a few soldered parts, such as the TV tuner, a crystal, and perhaps a few jumpers. Maybe the video display chip (Agnus or Alice) may have some PAL or NTSC different default preference but this makes no difference to being able to power up the overall motherboard/system anywhere in the world, with the proper PSU.

As long as you have means of viewing PAL display (e.g. through an RGB monitor, a multi-system TV, etc.) you should be fine.

I used this on my PAL Amiga when I could only use it with an NTSC screen, it mode promotes system-friendly stuff, works well too:
ModePro

Alternatively, you might find this useful, although I haven't tried it myself:
AmigaToNTSC
