@Leirbag28

I think he's using SDL so it pretty much requires the use of a graphics card.

Nice work so far.

BTW, it works well without sound on my A4000/Mediator 4000Di/Voodoo3 3000 setup. (Need to fix my AHI install to test the sound enabled version. But, I'd vote for a native sound routine)

@Voodoo testers:

Thanks for reporting that it worked for you. I should check somewhere else then. Are there some special ENV parameters which need to be set for SDL to work on the Voodoo?

Could you please check how you have set the ENV variables that 194x checks when starting up?
Snoopdos reports two of them as "Fail" here.
Thanks!

@all

Many thanks for your help testing!!

How long did it take you to write the 194x game? Were you able to rip anything directly from original versions, or did you produce this one from scratch?
I started thinking about the game and Construction Kit when my wife and me were in hospital awaiting our first baby last xmas. The game engine is written from scratch and is about 7000 lines of code so far. It took me about two month to write. The GFX was recreated based on screenshots of the Arcade original.
The game engine and Kit only covers things neede for this test game - I'll need to add write more routines for cases like underwater effects, rendering of fog and smoke, etc.
I hope that some people will help me with painting so that I can focus on coding.

The game is using hicolor (16bit GFX).
So it requires a GFX card.
I recently added 256 color support to the game engine.
With loosing a little quality and dropping some effect like the colored light then the game could run in AGA.

If I add a Chunky2Planar and Paula Sound to the game engine then this game and other games created with the Kit would run well on very fast AGA Amigas (A1200 + 060).

An A600 is way to slow for that type of game and does not support enough colors to show these type of games.

But to be honest I'm not sure if adding AGA support to the game-engine is worth the work. Now that Neo-Amigas like the Efika are supposed to coming out with a price tag of only $100.
I assume most of the still active Amiga users will get such a new, fast Neo-Amiga soon.

@Methuselas

Did you get my PM?

Do you have any plans for a Linux x86 version?
I can compile one for you. I'll do this today or tomorrow.

Actually I had hoped to find some Amiga people helping me with GFX for future games before I start building Linux and Windows binaries. :-)

Cheers

I tried this on my AmigaOne last night and it ran great! It felt a little slow but I'm not sure how fast it is supposed to run.

I can't wait for the final version of your game creation software!

Working really well here, MorphOS and Pegasos II, radeon 8500 LE. (I always have full system debuggin tools enabled, and it didn't trigger any problems. nice!)

Very slick, demos, anims, fitting music. Very arcade like.

/me likes

If the construction kit side is easy to use, this should indeed help create some rather cool games.

@humppa

I don't have any SDL variables (SDL_VIDEODRIVER, SDL_AUDIODRIVER, or SDL_DEBUG) set here and no problems.

BTW, on my system it opens a 320x240 screen (with the bottom 40 rows blank). I don't have a 320x200 screen defined.

Too bad I can't get it going here.
Amiga4000 with mediator and 060.
Can it be made to work on my system?
Hope so I'll love these games and I am certainly are willing to pay a contribution if possible to encourage development for classic/OS4.0.
Keep on going great work!!

Hmm, waiting in hospitals sure can get one thinking (in fact, it can make me almost desperate to do some hard work just to avoid the current situation). So you had your first kid at xmas? Sounds like a good present for the family. Nice.

Two months (presumably part time) just after having your first kid sure sounds like good going. A really productive hobiest. Great work, and what a great contribution sharing it with the community! Thanks a lot!

Excellent work!

Just tried the Windows version (was too lazy to reboot into Linux) and I like it! Nice big explosions and a real arcadey feel to it!

I guess it helps that I'm a fan of the 1942 arcade game too!

I will try the Amiga version, but my A3000 is having stability issues at the moment...
