Default Yahoo Mail - An endless source of problems...

Grrrr!

I'm running the demo of IBrowse 2.3, I have it patched and I have AmiTCP patched too. I have the latest AmiSSL and the latest MUI classes.

Why does Yahoo Mail tell me IBrowse isn't responding to cookies even when everything is ACCEPT in the preferences?

Last year everyone complained that the buttons weren't accessible all of a sudden on Yahoo Mail and they sorted it. Do the webmasters have a grudge against minority browsers on the server list?

Can anyone recommend a free web mail service that actually works with Amigas?

Well, from what I've heard, GMail does. You can also use it and have YAM check it as a POP3 client. However, I haven't checked it (don't have an Amiga on the net yet) so take that with a grain of salt. Hopefully someone else will have a better idea.

Go GMail! Google does it right for Amigas! The only hitch is that some one already using GMail will have to invite you, since it's still officially in beta format. I can't imagine any Amiga user refusing you though. They just have to submit your name and curent E-Mail address.
Hope this helps.

Ok!

Someone send me an Amiga.org Private Message with an exclusive invite to GMail and I'll put on my best tuxedo and dancing shoes!

... how'd the people who invite others get invited in the first place? It's like the chicken or the egg!

:-)

Amiga browsers aren't even minority browsers, most minority platforms have at least a Firefox port... The Amiga browsers will be a tiny fraction of 1% of the browsers going there.

Why should they bother with obsolete browsers when covering 3 browsers will cover 99.9% of their users?

The problem is not with Yahoo, it's the Amiga browsers not keeping up with the rest of the world.

Hi,

I still have countless GMail invites left, so if anyone wants to PM me, I'll happily send you an invite!

@Hyperspeed:
I'll PM you now...

25 invites to the GMail Ball... I'd have to hire a limousine...

:-D

I'll have a look and see but I doubt Voyager or IBrowse will be accepted by the `cookie monster' that is the modern webmail provider.

Minator: It's not the fault of the Amiga browsers if Yahoo keeps moving the goalposts. The latest spanner in the works is that they now want a new type of cookie and require a new variant of SSL encryption.

This is after the multitude of security questions, passwords, biblical-length URLs and bitmap picture codes.

That IBrowse is coping with their nasty Javascript sign-up pages is a miracle in itself but for them to fix a fault a few months back and then go `upping the ante' yet again is a sure sign that there's a breakdown of communication in their webmail departments.

MSN has never been an option as it was throwing every dirty trick in the book at Voyager some time ago and other webmail sites have been hit by hackers, closed down or just can't resolve their technical issues (Windows doing a checksum on squillions of emails).

I'm a little apprehensive about GMail though, I heard you don't really delete from it - merely put stuff into a vast 1GB recycle bin. Not good for privacy in this day and age. And there was a problem with them sending you adverts based on keywords in your e-mails too. All a bit creepy!

8-)

Don't be - it's fine! As well as using the huge "Trash" folder, you can actually do a permanent delete.

And the adverts are simple text adverts generated only at the time you view the email. Google/GMail doesn't send you anything.

Hah!

Thanks Darklight, I got it working! They definately seem more Amiga friendly than Yahoo, and you can permanently delete too!

I tried to reload the invite and it said "The page has lost it's magic powers" or something like that.

It sounded like Darth Vader "Your Powers Are Weak Old Man!"...

:-D :-D :-D

InTheSand: Thanks for your invite, it would be greedy to have two so please give your invite to the needy.

:-D

How did you two get these party invites anyway?

No probs! There's been heaps of them given out on these forums recently. You *should* see a box on the left that lets you type in an address and click "send invite". However, if it says "Your browser is not fully supported, use a supported browser for better results", which I'm assuming it would, you won't see that. (From memory anyway). The same thing happened with Opera - it's fully supported now, but a while back, I couldn't see the invite section.

And yep, one email address per invite link. You'll have to get more invitation links to create any new addresses.

That reminds me of a joke, too -
Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker are in the middle of a huge lightsaber battle. Darth Vader says "Luke, I know what you're getting for Christmas." Luke - "No, that's impossible! How can you know?" Darth Vader - "I felt your presents." :-D

No worries! So, the offer is open to anyone else, PM me if you would like a GMail invite...

I got mine through a friend who was invited... I don't know who the first "chosen few" GMail users were though - I think Google had a period where people who wanted to beta test GMail could request an account or something...
