I wouldn't worry about the seperation of church and state, indeed, in the British setup there are members of the church of england in the house of lords, so you could quite happily sing God Save the Queen :-)

The whole getting back to nature and using horses, its actually not a bad plan, you could sign up to the Kyoto agreement and do nothing about your power stations at all for at least 10 years as the amount of emissions would be cut down dramatically :-)

And it wouldn't be an imperial serfdom, you would be a subject of the crown - just like every person in the UK who was born here.

You would also not have to worry about passport control so much comming through to the UK as you would be a part of the empire.

@Glaucus
First of all we need to deal with the serious issue of Texan vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation. It's y'all, not ya'll. I would expect a literate Canadian such as yourself to get it right. But one must make allowances for furiners. And secondly, how will this affect Canada? (Re:Fun Poll) If America is disarmed, who will you hire to be your mercernaries? I know, Israel! :-P

@Leander
You answered some of my questions, but you missed the most important one. Thus I am doomed to lived in ignorance, forever deprived of that one particular piece of knowledge. Well, I cannot expect you to know everything. :-D

Heh, a few years back I took this course in Visual Basic and the instructor was flown in from the US (I worked for EDS (a Texas based company) at the time). Anyway, somehow we got onto the topic of all our little language differences, in particular the American phrase "Ya'll". He was surprised to find out that we Canadians almost never ever say "ya'll". In fact, he was kinda puzzled and asked us: "If you never say Ya'll, then how do you address a group of people?". We were all stumped!

I would just like to point out that peoples in many regions of the US do not identify "y'all" as a part of their general vocabulary. I've only heard it a handful of times when I've been traveling. Please do not group me in with the many that need to return to their porch-rockers and resume whittling.

meh...

the truth of the matter is that I'm just trying to distance myself from my own southern heritage (I have an extremely large clan in TN). :-P

I just copied it from: here

But after a bit of research it turns out that it was not written by John Cleese after all, even though its style is Cleesesque (You can imagine the character of Basil Fawlty reading it out.) :-D

The following link examines the historical origin of this humorous article.

So Cleese should have added a 15:

Putting sub-average IQ high school dropouts in control of extremely large guns and training them only using "Medal of Honor" on a Playstation 2 can no longer be accepted as a measure of military strength. From April 2005 you will be taught to stand up against lightly armed militias without requiring constant bomber support or using ten thousand tonnes of napalm to destroy a hostile old-folk's home. You will learn the subtle differences in your own troops and enemy, such as flags. As British subjugates you will also be taught how to properly win wars in jungles against hostile natives and not whine that the wars are unwinnable.
Do they let highschool dropouts join the Military over there? It's not allowed here.

Well, stricly speaking it's not actually possible to drop out of secondary school. We don't have a graduation thing like you have over there.

For anyone to signup to the Army they must pass the Army Entrance Test for Educational Standards (Known as BARB), and also a physical fitness test and two medical examinations. This is to stop the real thicko's getting into the Army.

There are then specific entry requirements for particular jobs wihtin the army Job Descriptions.

I reckon they should put anyone convicted of a violent crime into a special army force, and send them off as cannon fodder. But maybe that's just me! ;-)
