Default PPC troubleshooting

Right, I've stripped the system - I've pulled the Silversurfer and PCMCIA NIC, I've pulled the SCSI cable from the BPPC, all that remains is a Powerflyer, to which a HD and CD-ROM is connected.

The system won't boot, although I can feel warmth (not blazing heat) from the 060 and PPC chips, and I can get to the accelerators menu by pressing Esc. I suppose the next step would be to remove the BVision - why do I get the feeling that its impossible to fix to the accelerator with those little screws? How does one hold the nut for each screw in place when reattatching?

Hi Cyberus

i'm not sure if it works on BlizzardPPC too but, try to disable the Blizzard SCSI holding down the S key, during the boot.

Ciao

Hello Framiga,
I have tried that already

I hope the PPC is not dead :-(

Could a faulty BVision have this effect, or shall I just face the fact that the PPC is gone

If you see the ppc menu on the bvision why do you want to remove it ? I'd remove the HDD and if necessary also the Powerflyer and check if I get the boot screen. Then add the HDD and check if I get the early starup menu. If so, boot without startup sequence. If the dos window appears, the hardware will at least let you boot. So remove all drivers and add one at a time. Check which one freezes the system.

Bye,
Thomas

The monitor is connected to an external scandoubler on the RGB port. When I connected the monitor to the BVision, I got endless gurus.

Removing the Powerflyer is a pain in the a$$, because the ROMS are mounted onto it. :-(

edit: I think I will just rebuild the system from scratch

The system didn't boot, or, at least all I saw was a black screen.

This is the first time I've had a PPC system, so I'm learning as I go along...

Well, the two possibilities if that is the case are Hyperion's repair service, or the Amiga repair centre en France. But I haven't given up hope just yet, could be all manner of things causing problems.
