Default It Was A Wee Bet... But Really It Was All About Fun & The AMIGA... :)

Need to point out a few things quickly first here...

Firstly this really is my very last ever post here (the crowd goes wild & sighs of relief are heard all over Amigaland)...
Secondly I have Transitions permission to post this (that's at you nasty mods who might want to delete or move this)...
Thirdly I will do my very, very best not to insult or offend anyone with it (Honest)...
Fourthly what I am about to say is true & honest (it's up to yourself whether you believe it or not)...
Fithly (is fithly a word !!!) Thanks guys for all the PM's and Emails but this should answer your questions...

My name is indeed Frank Spiers aged 47 (almost) and I really do live in Scotland and yes I suppose I could be called a wee bit of a bamstick and definitely not your usual type of everyday internet user...

I have owned and used Amiga's since around February of 1986 and until last summer I've never owned, used or needed a PC for any of my computing tasks as the Amiga has always taken care of all my computing needs...

But like I say that was until one day last summer when my brother-in-law (John) arrived home from the auction and called me to say he's bought this old Apple computer and would I like to buy it. So off I toddled down the road to his house to see what he was talking about. Anyway he had this iMac G4 thingy that looked like some sort of table lamp with an LCD Screen nailed to it, so I thought hey wonder if I could turn that into a TV and so I bought it from him...

After discovering I really couldn't make a nice table lamp telly from it my other brother-in-law in the states told me it was time to give the internet a go. I said no at first but then the other brother-in -law decided to make the wee usual bet with me...

We have been making silly bets with each other for the past 30 odd years over things like, How long would Maggie Thatcher be Prime minister before someone tries to assassinate her, Would Barrak Obahma become the first coloured President of the USA or Did John Gilmore really marry wee fat Carol from the Chip shop just to get free take aways...

Anywhoo that bring me to the whole point of why I was here, our usual 50p bet... which was...

To go on the internet and last one year without giving up with the following three stipulations...

1) Join one of these forum thingies and speak to people just as I would do in my real everyday life without getting permanently banned
2) Use the internet for at least 8 hours each and every day just as if they were like working hours.
3) Any purchases I made for anything (including groceries, cigarettes etc...) all had to be done online.

Well just a few days ago the brother in law told me I had won the bet 16 days early, it was supposed to go on until the 29th of this month but with the recent run in with Wayne, John told me enough was enough as it was no longer being fun and I could give up now as the bet was won...

I know some will say cobblers at this or who cares and all that malarky but it really is the truth and the reason why I suddenly appeared on the internet almost one year ago...

While I found this forum to be incredibly fun and interesting and very useful to an Amiga User like myselef. the rest of the net was no more than I had thought it to be (ie: boring and full of nutters). The one thing I didn't expect to find though was all the good friends I made along the way with whom I'll stay in touch with via email as long as I keep the on net.

As to all the bammy speculation about who I am, where I lived and even if I have some sort of personality disorder, well that's just the loonies rattling their gums with crazy talk who seem more obsessed about me than they do the Amiga...

There was no change in my personality from start to finish, what you got was just me, the same as if you meet me in real life, the only change that came about was I became a lot more vocal about certain folk who it seems only come here to proclaim the "Amiga is dead", "time to move into the modern world" and all that negative load of jobbies...

This site is an Amiga site (the clue is in the title) and I sure as hell wasn't going to sit here and listen to all the haters put down the Amiga just because they don't care about it or even own one anymore. So the haters called it that petty wee made up internet word "Trolling" and began baying for my blood and were answered by me in kind. After all this site aint about the latest iPhones or a social club for ex Amiga users who now have become Amiga haters, it's about the AMIGA...

So while I was here I took it upon myself to defend my beloved Amiga's every time a dunderheid or whahoo put it down or used up valuable front page space rattling on about iPhones, iPads and other such keech which in comparison to the Amiga are basically just modern day posers accessories...

If I encouraged even just one perosn think and talk more about the Amiga and just what an amazing machine it still is and even managed to encourage you to dig it out again or use it a bit more often, then I feel I have served a good purpose being here...

If on the other hand your still an "Amiga is dead" and I wanna talk about the latest bit of kit that has sod all to do with the Amiga then... awa n bile yer heid an bugger aff tae a site rat geis a crap...

Well I dunno about you but I've certainly had some real fun & laughter while I was here and made quite a number of good friends along the way and would just like to say thank you to all of you and especially Transition & Pyro for giving me the time here to try and spark a wee bit of fun and interest back into the Amiga scene...

So with that I'll just say Cheerio and wish ye awe ra best in life and all your Amiga related endeavours...

Frank Spiers

Hi,

@Commodorejohn,

I like your style,

Franko, Franko, Franko, Franko, Franko, Franko, Franko, Franko, Franko, Franko,
Franko, Franko, Franko, Franko, Franko, Franko, Franko, Franko, Franko, Franko,
Franko, Franko, Franko, Franko, Franko, Franko, Franko, Franko, Franko, Franko,

Now maybe magneto doesn't know it, but there are some people that would like to see him gone more than Franko. Never seen him help anyone anyway, just likes to argue, (something like me, but with not as much smarts). It takes all kinds to make up amiga.org but I think Franko has me beat out by just a wee bit.

Huh?

I was just going by what i had read and how i am interpreting what's going on. Believe me when i say i am very confused as to what's going on at the moment.

Why do you constantly launch attacks against me and any one else who mentions his name? Remember, i am not Franko and neither is Smerf so please keep your personal attacks aimed at Franko only.

P.S. I am not a tosser or a moron

P.P.S I wrote that quote and not Nostalgic. The link doesn't work. What happened there?

I noticed that too! I just shook my head and moved on though...
The site has been "getting stuck" and seems slow after the page errors were fixed the other day too.
