Sorry if this is remedial, but was hoping to get some direct answers. Using an A2091 with 7.0 ROMS:

a) What is the largest HD & Partition a 1.3 system can use before you start to run into trouble?

b) What is the largest HD & Partition a 2.x system can use before you start to run into trouble?

...I'm aware of the System 3.x limitations, just need a refresher course on the oldies. I've got a smattering of drives sitting here, but they're either 40mb or 10gb!! Wondering what sizes I should be going for in building the latest legacy setups :-)

2 GB partitions on 4 GB harddrives.

Note that harddrive size limit is dependant on the controller's firmware. Some controllers have a limit of somewhat near 500 MB. Other controllers can only handle 2 GB instead of 4 GB.

If you own both Workbench disks, you should use FastFileSystem from WB 2.0 or above with Kick 1.3.

Also make sure that you only use DOS\1 (444f5301) with Kick 1.3. DOS\3 (FFS INTL) will give strange results (partitions shown twice on the desktop).

Thanks for the info Thomas. So wow... 1.3 can handle a 4GB HD and a 2GB partition? That's a pleasant surprise. I was expecting somewhere's in the hundreds range. And thanks for the tip on WB2.0's FFS. I have witnessed first hand that "mystery" partition/icon before. Formatted the drive with whatever is in 1.3 (wasn't FFS the new and improved FS touted with 1.3?) non-intl and all is good.

Make sure that the file "FastFileSystem" has been added to the HDD's RDB and give both the file system and the partitions the identifier 0x444f5301 (DOS\1).

The original file system (DOS\0 aka 444f5300) has a partiion size limit of 8 MB. It's the only one which can be used from ROM in 1.3. Only with ROM 2.0 and above FFS can be used without being added to the HDD.
