I had the misfortune of purchasing a tested and working boxed Amiga 1000 on eBay a couple weeks ago. When I fired it up the floppy drive was not working and when I contacted the seller he said that even though he said tested and working he also said as-is. So I have a computer I can't play with.
Does anyone have a working Amiga 1000 internal floppy drive for sale? I'll pay cash or if you are interested in trade, I have a tons of extra stuff in my large retro-tech collection. |

Hit up amigakit.com
I use an amiga 1000 internal floppy disc drive in my a3k and it's my understanding that the floppy used in the a4k should work in a 3k. If the floppy drives amigakit sells work in the a4k and 12k tower I don't see why it wouldn't interface to the a1k mobo, now it might not mount properly in the case.... I don't know. |

user CLS2086 on this board repairs these drives. You might want to PM this dude, i've never had him repair any of my stuff but it might be cheaper than doing what I did, which was pick up drives and a1ks on ebay from time to time. None of the a1k drives I got off ebay were in good shape ): |

Hi,
I need to know what kind of A1000 drive it's ! They were 3 main models often put in A1K. The most common it is the antique 357 that use a kind of metallic cable to move the head. Very very hard to save. My advice for 95% of drives that were used in Amiga : get an electronic contact spray cleaner air spray (or go to a GAS station and use the tire pressure machine ;-) ) get a soft teebrush to sacrife get a kind of WD40/degrip'oil spray and some cotton/paper to protect head. 1 - take off the drive 2 - open the top (screws at the back or on side) 3 - take off the dust with air spray 4 - put cotton/paper to protect heads 5 - locate the 2 front switchs (floppy in and write enable), then use the electronic contact spray cleaner on them, and action them at least 10 times and do that a 2nd time 6 - return the drive and locate a motor plate hole, then use softly WD40/degrip'oil spray. 7 - make it turn with your finger and turn back, then return the drive and make it turn again. Spray a little 2nd time to get a continuous smooth feeling (remember that it has to spin at 300+ RPM). 8 - locate the head displacement motor. Try to find a hole without disassembling it ! Use the entrance of the rubbon or the axis of the displacement screew and use electronic contact spray cleaner more than a bit ! 9 - try to make it move gently in 1 way then in another !!! Beware if it's using the rubbon technology !! 10 - if it's the long screew system, keep the heads well protected, and use the teebrush to take off of grease and black durst !! you can use gently electronic contact spray cleaner on the screew axis, then brush it nicely. 11 - make it move gently !!! And let it at the middle of its curse. You can put new grease if you want or just a thin film of WD40. Take off the heads protection gently Don't put back cover now, you'll have to look at the result live ! Look at the back of the drive if there is no pin bent. If there is, be nice and slow it's fragile !! then plug it back : PSU / DATA and front light. then pray You can try to do it again, sometime the displacement heads system need more cleaning and spray ! And take care to protect heads !! You can also use a soft cotton (for ear cleaning), with a bit of isopropyl alcool, but i prefer formating 2 - 3 good floppy ! A bad joke would be that the previous user changed the ID mode of the drive... You can also have a vicious problem, like a friend of mine with an A500 !! The floppy drive needed maintenance, but the motherboard too !!! There was a little vicious oxydation of a IC support. So I had to take off each IC after one gently (FRAGILE !!!), use electronic contact spray cleaner and brush them and their corresponding sockets !!! Et voilą !! You can get on Ebay (or where you can fing) a big external A1010 drive and take it's drive, it's the good one that fit right in place (it's often the same model).
