Default Using A600 Keyboard on PC

Hi all,

I want to create an A600-based Mini/Nano-ITX machine (cue boo's and hissing). For this mission to be viable, I need to figure out a way of using the A600 keyboard with the new motherboard, be it via USB or PS/2 (preferably the latter). I have seen the Keyrah interface, which would probably do the job but I was wondering if anyone knew of the A600 keyboard spec. so that I could build my own interface? Any information or links greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Stu

Would a Keyrah do the trick?

Saqmaster : cf A600 schematics or perhaps in RKRM books. But obviously, it will probably cost you more than a keyrah (about 30 EUR) to build such interface !

That URL isn't working for me

The problem with the Keyrah is it's so huge! Space will be really tight in the A600 for this project so I don't think it's feasible.

@saqmaster

First of all, A600 has the keyboard interface integrated with the motherboard (as opposite to A500 or external Amiga keyboards). This means that you would have to connect to the green ribbon-a-like cable. Essentialy, you would have to build a microcontroller based circuit and programm it to translate keypresses to PS/2 kb-commands (like Keyrah). On the other hand, even with Amiga keyboard interface you would still need a microcontroller to translate Amiga keyboard commands to PS/2 ones (since they are completly diffrent AFAIK). And don't forget that Keyrah also adds classic joystick/mouse ports.

@yak

Yes, I am aware of what's required, I just don't have the data for the A600 keyboard. It's stuff like the joystick ports which makes Keyrah so large, and unfortunately so unsuitable. I may buy a Keyrah and remove the micro from it and put it on my own board

@saqmaster

If you're that good at it, you can try :-).

Keyrah is also such a big beast because it works with A600/A1200 and C64 at the same time. So maybe removing the unneeded connectors, C64 ICs and cutting off unneeded parts of the board would be sufficent?
