Default Monitors - Commodore or Philips?

I want a monitor to go with my A500+ and for my A1200, when I get it, but I'm not sure which to choose.

I will either get one of those philips ones, I think it was a CM something, or the commodore 1084 or 1084s.

Which one is best?

I would go for a Philips 8833-II or better still if you can find one...a Nec Multisync 3D which is a 15inch monitor which is the creme de la creme in Amiga monitors

Err the NEC 3D is 14 inch and can be a bit blurry. Get a microvitec 15 inch if you can find it over the NEC. The phillips and the commodore 1084 are the one and the same.

Someone told me that the Microvitec ones were better, but I have looked and they don't pop up on ebay very often.

I I read that they were, but they do both have diferent cases (i.e. they look different).

I've also heard that all amiga monitors are superior to normal TVs.

I havn't been able to find much information out about the philips.

Am I right in thinking that the CM8833 has SCART so I can connect the Amiga to is using the RGB to SCART cable which I currently use with a TV?

On the Philips CM8833 (not CM8833 II) there IS a scart socket, and you can use it with your rgb-scart cable you use for your TV. I used to use a CM8833 and it was a nice monitor, much better resolution and colour than a TV but it used to whine a bit.

Cheers,

I looked on a website which had some info about the 8833 and it said it did.

Perhaps there is some variation between models?

@steve30

You can always consider to buy an Multisync
Commodore 1942, it has a dot pitch of 0.28mm,
or the Microvitech 1538S.

:-)

I remember reading in the Amiga magazines of the day that these two monitors were both made by Philips.

The magazines inferred that the best tubes were kept for the Philips monitors.

Naturally, if that is the case you should go for a Philips CM8833xx.

lol. Quite cheeky.

If that's true then it's definately the CM8833.
