Hi
Just tried to boot up my 4000, nothing. I have just purchased a Cyberstorm 060 and was going to fit it, but... Now my machine won't work! Could this be battery related? I also managed to get hold of a Picasso IV a month ago When I put the Picasso in, the battery was a little furry, but the clock still kept time. So I thought I'd get round to replacing it soon (famous last words) Just took the Picasso out to investigate, and tbh it does not seem worse than when I fitted the Picasso. But, over the last week or so, the clock has not been keeping time. A couple of days ago it would'nt start straight away, I tried the early boot screen and it went from there. There does not seem to be a way to replace the battery simply? I can't try from floppy as the floppy drive is a bit temperamental. Hope someone is able to help me. Thanks Steve |

This site had some good directions for dealing with this. Here You're going to end up removing the motherboard from the case to do this. While it's out you can examine it real close, perhaps with a magnifying glass, to tell the extent of the damage. In my case, there was damage, but to one of the clock circuit chips. I'm in the process of repairing that. It could have been worse. Some of the traces on the motherboard for the memory is near the battery, and sometimes those get damaged by the battery and the 4000 starts to have serious problems. If after cleaning and examining real close, you don't see any obvious damage, you can put everything back together again and resume trouble shooting. Sounds like alot of work, but you'll end up with a very dead Amiga if you don't address the battery quick. On the bright side, if it was a loose cable, this would cure that when you put it all back together. ![]() -David |

Just for your information Steve,
You can remove the battery without taking out the board but do it carfuly as you will have to break the conection between the battery and the contact using some very small side cutters and a flat head screwdriver. It worked for me and I have not ever replaced it (been 2 years now) my 4000 works just fine without it. It could also be the 3640 borad (if you are still using it). they have been known to just stop working like it did for me a year ago so I bought two spare boards one to replace the fauly one and the other just as a backup. What are the symtoms when you turn on the power? (what does the 4000 do) do you get a grey screen, does the hard drive spin up, what is the power light doing?

Hi Tony
grey screen, Hard drive does spin up. Also checked monitor on my 1200 and that works, took out picasso incase that was the problem, although I connected another monitor to the Amiga native output, nothing. still will not boot. Won't even get to the early boot screen. Would disconnecting the hard drive and CD rom help as then the rom screen should come up? Thanks to everyone so far for trying to help me, it's much appreciated. Steve |
