So I have a C128D w/ another 1571.

I was thinking about buying the CMD SUper CPU to get a Wheels , contiki or someday a WiNGs setup going...

My question is :would it be better to just get a 64C and a couple of 1541 IIs?

It seems that most old stuff runs fine on 64c/1541 anyway and with a SuperCPU, it seems like the C128D will only offer an external keyboard. Does the C128s 80 Column mode mean anything to GEOS 2.0? or Wheels? (or even Wings?)

Any thoughts?

Since you have the 128, I say use that. You will only be able to use it in c64 mode with the SuperCPU. IIRC, GEOS, Contiki and Wings all work in the c64 mode of the 128 so you won't be able to take advantage of 80 column mode.

If you are in the mood for these 8-bit hacks then you should check out this link. A hard drive on your 64/128.

This is definitely _not_ true. The SuperCPU 128 works both in 64 and in 128 mode. Geos (128) and Wings also work in 40/80 column-mode on the 128. Contiki is indeed just for 64 mode. I have it setup like this at home.

If you have the 64-version of the SuperCPU it will indeed only be usable in 64-mode, ofcourse. Therefor go for the 128 version.

Tip: keep the 128D. With a 64 and a SuperCPU you would also have to find/build a more powerfull PSU, while the 128D's PSU is more than adequate for the task.
