News from Darren Wall
Famous former Amiga developer hits its Funding Goal.
+ New Video to Celebrate the Last Few Days of the Kickstarter Campaign
Read-Only Memory's flagship title Sensible Software 1986-1999 – the definitive biography of the pioneering British game company – has now surpassed its crowd-funding goal of $30,000 on Kickstarter: http://kck.st/NTQNRh. The book, written by Gary Penn and featuring interviews with industry figures, legendary developers and Sensible team members, as well as a feast of visuals and archive treasures, will be published in June 2013.
The Kickstarter campaign comes to a close on Sunday 7 October at 9pm (GMT). To celebrate the final few days of funding, Read-Only Memory will release a brand new 16-bit style animated video on the Kickstarter page on Friday 5 October at 9am. You can find a sneak preview frame attached here.
Jon Hare of Sensible Software says:
"I am thrilled that we have gone past our goal, and it's great to see such positive feedback from everyone who has backed the project. I hope that our readers will find our memories of the golden era of Sensible Software both interesting and enlightening.
Looking back, Sensible was a unique working environment for everybody there. We worked incredibly hard, putting in a stupid amount of hours, often with no sleep, in order to perfect every detail of our games. I fear I had a reputation as a friendly, but persistent, perfectionist of a creative director, which occasionally brought out the team’s frustrations. Each person had their own way of dealing with this stress. Mega Lo Mania and Sensible Soccer lead programmer Chris Chapman would relieve his frustration by smashing up all of the broken Speedking joysticks used for testing, via the rather destructive game of ‘Speedking conkers’. Other team members could often be found in the pub at 7pm, preparing to return to the office to work through the night… Oh, what fun we had."
