Re: AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 Released
Please explain what "mess" 4.1 u3 created. I've been using it since the update came out and have had zero problems with it.

Cool, looking forward to trying this out. Is there a new build of UAE itself, though? E-UAE 0.8.29 is extremely old.

@Duce
Recognition of USB devices such as keyboard and mouse were broken in Update 3. Sometimes had to boot the machine twice for it to find the keyboard - and sometimes the mouse scroll wheel was not detected either. Haven't had enough time to play with it yet - but so far both are detected correctly and initialised. |

@ CGutjahr
Thanks for that information. |
Re: AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 Released
You forgot to say whether that statement was for immediate release or not.

>I'm not a lawyer, so I was never sure if "AmigaOS 3.1" in lawyer-speak means "version 3.1 of AmigaOS" or "all versions of AmigaOS, up to 3.1". Looks like it might be the latter, unless "official AmigaOS 3.x ROMs" in the announcement refers only to 3.1. Though that would make me wonder why only 3.x ROMs are included.
Hmm, that would seem to imply no V3.9 then, just obsolete V3.1 :-( <sigh> Did Amiga not have the rights to all versions of their own OS or something!? |

Re: AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 Released
Nobody shouts at Microsoft and I get updates every day on my Windows machines. I just treat them as updates, because that is what they are, just that. They update major flaws and security holes in Windows. It's not an upgrade, it's not a new OS. ;)

There was a point in time where OS4.1.3 would be the last stop before OS4.2.0, but after OS4.1.3 there were too many loose ends, to many outstanding bugs that needed to be fixed, hence this quick OS4.1.4 "hotfix" release that indeed is all about bug-fixing. This release obviously aims to be what OS4.1.3 wasn't. This is a good thing, never claimed otherwise, so please spare me your pointless "oh here we go again" comments. |

And Microsoft would never dream of charging money for bug-fixes either, hence they wouldn't market the fact that they don't as a feature... ;) Anyway, it's a good thing for OS4 users that they could get these fixes out relatively quickly after the OS4.1.3 release. And as a bonus, OS4 users can now use OS3! :) |

Re: AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 Released
I've never paid one thin dime for any of the 4.1 updates, Takemehomegrandma.
As for the USB problems with u3, if they were there I never hit 'em. I just finished plugging in a brand new G 19 keyboard, G 9 mouse and a 8 GB USB key into my SAM 440ep system with zero issues in prep for installing u4. |
