What if? 1990, Amiga games selling for $5.99. Piracy?

I wonder if there would have been much piracy of games if you would have been able to buy the game diskette(s), box, manual for $5.99. I find it hard to believe that it would have cost 'that' much to produce even for back then.

How often haven't you bought a game, blown 40-50 bucks on one just to get disappointed, right?! Who decided that it was a fair price to charge?

Commodore allegedly sold 30 million C64 units. The buyers for software then most certainly were available.

I understand that it cost a lot of money for a software distributor to manufacture games for the whole world. However, isn't that why the software developers would go to a software distributor?
Then why was it so hard to distribute games back then? Plenty of European games never made it to the U.S. market. The same goes for the games out of Japan. Also, not many stores bothered to sell games from what I remember.

There should have been a rack with games in each convenience store and some vendor coming by every three weeks restocking.

They either freeze or don't display properly on my ntsc tv. Is there any way I can make it more "demo friendly". Amiga monitors are pretty expensive, and so are scan doublers so I think I'm kinda stuck with the tv and a good ol a520 for now...:laugh1: Is there any way I can force the fat agnus to ntsc mode even when demos try to do pal? What about getting some slow ram?

I am trying to get up to speed on coding C for the amiga. I'm using vbcc from the CLI and am trying to figure out which floating point linker I should use if I am coding for my 68040 in my A4000.

Currently, the only one that works properly is -lmieee. if I flag it with -lm040 it errors out with a bunch of "reference to undefined symbol".

At the moment I'm not doing real intensive floating point operations, but it would be nice and fun if I could use the FPU in the 040. I am assuming compiling to ieee is using something other than the actual FPU in the processor.

Am I missing a library somewhere? I do have NDK 3.9 and vbcc pointed at it, but I'm not positive its pointed at it correctly. I have it aimed at the parent drawer, not any of the directories underneath. Should it be pointed at the Include drawer?

I've got a dataflyer 500 ide hooked up to my A500.

Originally, I used two hard drives with it, and am now looking to combine the contents of the drives onto a single 4GB compact flash drive.

I've got the flash drive formatted and booting.

The source files are just under 2gb. I can store an imaged or compressed copy AND still have room for the actual files.....

I've used 'dd' within linux to image the drives, have "conv=swab"'d them, and have mounted them within WinUAE. I've also imaged the empty 4gb flash drive, and have that mounted as well into WinUAE.

I need to copy multiple partitions from each drive onto the flash drive, but there's a few issues:

* The dataflyer disk partitioning tool during setup is a piece of crap. The UI is horrible, and it doesn't appear that I can do precise sizing of the partitions. I was originally going to recreate partitions of the same size, and then use TSGUI to create rdf's, and then expand the rdf's over top of the duplicate-sized partitions.

* I'd simply copy the files, but there are errors on the disk which abort the copy. I don't remember if there is a flag to ignore it, and otherwise not sure which utility can copy and ignore them. I thought about using LHA (which I'm pretty sure can ignore errors), but there's gotta be other ways.

* I don't care about maintaining most of the partitions as partitions.... if they are simply directories now, that's fine by me.... except....

* I have at least two partitions that are NOT amiga dos formatted. These have to be copied sector by sector.

After creating a "merged" 4gb drive, I intend on swab'ing it, and then dd'ing it back to the card. This works exactly as it should, and I have no trouble with this....

This seems like a simple exercise.... If the file systems were easily supported by linux, if I could mount and unmount .rdf's, and so on, maybe I'd already be finished with the task......

Thanks for any advice

I'm looking for this guy : maybe polish ?

It's the coder of RemApollo : unfortunately, this proggy run fine
only with a 1200 and a 1260... Fail on 3000/4000...

With the last version 1.8 who support 1 Mb Kickstart, RemApollo
do his job well on 4000 & Romy with a guru at the end : I can quit
by clicking the mouse, hopefully, and return to Workbench...
The Kick is mapped into fastram, but the guru is a bit embarrassing...

So, RemApollo need a small fix for working fine on 4000...

Anyone here have the email of MM ? Who know him ?

Thanks all,

I am trying to get Warp3D to work on the Voodoo. I installed the Warp3D that came on the MMCD from albox and used MEDconfig to configure. Using WarpUp5.1.

When I test Warp3D with the gear-PPC demo it works fine in fullscreen but crashes in window mode.

I have not really messed around a lot with the settings or tried a lot of games etc. I just wanted to know if this is a common problem or me that not configured things properly.
Thank you in advance.

I'm in the process of rewiring a Sega Mega Drive controller to use with my Amiga. As it is now, I can use button B and C on the controller (Button 1 and Button 2 on the Amiga) without further modifications. I'm thinking of rewiring so C is Up. Good for games with jumping. I prefer to have the jump button on the right side of the fire button (I'm an old NES player!). This would be easiest but I would loose one button.

That's the background, now for the question. Most game as far as I can remember only supported one joystick button and Up was commonly used for jumping in platform games. Did any game support multiple buttons, and if so, which games?

I have 4 PPC Macs: G3 Tower, G4 eMac, G4 Quicksilver, and G5 single 1.8 Mhz. I have been trying to like OS10.4 for a couple of years, now. It's alright for the most part, but, I have some glaring frustrations with it from time to time.

I cannot seem to write an ISO (even with tutorials from the net).

It is hit and miss to add commodity hardware to this system. Some of it kind of works and some doesn't at all.

When exploring new programs or features, the whole finder (not just the process!) can lock up for 30 minutes or indefinitely. Very annoying for a multitasking machine.

You can probably discern that I'm pretty frustrated right now. I am impressed with the hardware quality, but, some of Apple's philosophical choices in the OS annoy me. Other OSes seem to me to be less proprietary, allow multiple ways to get things done, and are much less finicky about hardware add-ons (drives, ports, etc) from other manufacturers. I'm ready to move on.

So, the reason for this post is to ask seasoned Morph people how it runs on Mac hardware. It is my hope that my G4, when installed with MorphOS, will not still retain the poorly outlined disappointments above. What limitations were revealed after trying to live with Morph?

Morning all. A nice Friday morning I'm sat in the office question for you.

I have a 1200 for CFHDD & ACA1220 all working fine. The 1200 has a 3.0 but I also have a 600 upstairs (not super relevant) with a 3.1 and in a drawer I have a 2.0 physical roms.

Anyway, I configured the HDD from WinUAE including the ACA1220 setup. WinUAE works fine using 1.3 roms as a 500 or 3.0 & 3.1 (40068) as a 1200 or even as a 4000.

I replicated my machine hardware in WinUAE and created the HDD and when it transferred over to the A1200 everything works perfectly.

Except one thing. I have installed all my games from the original disks to the HDD and (for example) BASS works fine. I thought I would give WHDLoad a go to load the games faster.

Now if I run WHDLoad with the CFHDD in the PC then WHDLoad works perfectly. If I transfer the CF to the Amiga then it says invalid rom in devs/kickstarts blah blah and if I move back to the PC it works again.

So from ACATune in the startup-sequence I softkicked the 3.1 rom WinUAE was using into the fastram with no problems (HDD games work) and made sure everything was named correctly in devs/kickstarts but got the same error.

Yes I tried about 5 different 31 kicks and also copied/pasted and renamed the WinUAE version to 40068.a1200. (also the a500, a600 and a4000 do the same error)

Any suggestions?
