The right to protest...

Posted 03-04-2011 at 03:48 PM by the_leander

Suddenly seems far less comfortable when you're on the business end tasked with protecting something likely to be a target for invasion...

Yup, that's right, after being trained up ready to go into the remote monitoring side, it seems that I'm now going to be guarding the local council housing/benefits office in the centre of town next Friday. At the time of the Lib Dem (part of the coalition government) conference.

To be clear, as a security guard in the UK I'm armed...

But given this, I think getting another job in the security industry is a non starter.

With a name that long I was taken back to Top Gears self built eco friendly car.

Fortunately Messrs Clarkson, Hammond and May had nothing to do with this little gem.

Bought on the highstreet for a snip under £80 it was less less than half the price for competing readers from the likes of Sony and Samsung. In fact the only thing that came close was a device with a backlit tft screen.

So what do you get? Well, surprisingly, the reader, a padded case,...

An older version, a superior outcome.

For the past two weeks or so I've been doing my new job, it has me working 12 hour shifts starting at silly hours morning and evening depending on where I'm needed.

So I've had a fair bit of oportunity to put Kubuntu 10.04LTS in netbook mode through its paces.

And I have to say, that it's actually really rather special I think.

Stable as my desktop system, much more smooth in operation that 10.10 was with an identical configuration. All in all, it's...
