Wherein I ramble at length about the Amiga community, the future of the Amiga, and whatever else Amiga-related moves me to pound out words on a keyboard for an hour or two.

You know what, it's been a while since I ranted about things in the Amiga community that annoy me, and this has been eating at me for a while, but with the latest news concerning *ahem* a certain remarkably-priced custom board, this has been coming up a lot: the "can't beat 'em, join 'em" argument.

The version I've seen, specifically, goes like so: "PowerPC is a dead architecture and can never hope to compete with x86 for performance, therefore all PowerPC-based Amigoid...

Okay, here's a phrase I'm getting really, really tired of hearing: "Sure, *list of damning indictments,* but at least they're doing something!"

You hear this a fair bit in political discussions, which is distressing enough, but I've been surprised by the frequency with which it gets said right here in the Amiga community. No disrespect to the PPC fans here, but I still can't get over how friendly the 68000 architecture is. This is the processor you'd want to learn assembler on, and it's just as beautifully suitable for high-level programming....

The Future? (Part the First)

There's a lot of talk around here about "the future of the Amiga." Many opinions are expressed on the subject, and I've shot off my mouth on the subject more than once. What I want to do here is lay out, for the record, exactly what I think about all this.

The Amiga is not dead.
Some people have taken to saying that the Amiga is dead. This is not true. Nothing is dead that has a following. It is not dead as a commercial product, either - nothing is dead as a commercial...
