Over the past 25 years, I have been a Flee-market trader on and off for a good 20 of them, and although I am no innocent to the dodgy deal, the 2nd Hand Sellers terms used have "narked" me sometimes more than the long con of the biz in the first place.

Here are my list of top 6 quotes you will here and I will let you judge on the merit or demerit of each

5. Its cheap at half the price......Often a used when a seller doubts the buyer will buy the item and is just wanting to go for a fag, tea or move on the next customer. Its a hand off.....Either buy it or F*ck off.

4. Sold As Seen......The classic cover all term meaning if you come back to me with any grief, I will set the dogs on you. Its I can't be bothered to test it, make sure its packaged correctly nor its it complete.

3. It worked the last time I used it.......In the case of an electrical item, its broke, don't buy it.

2. Its my brothers/mothers/sons.......same as 3. Its so badly broken if its a car its probably a death trap. its claiming liability elsewhere and not the seller.

1. In the Argos/Grattan/Littlewoods/Ebay/Trade catalogue its twice the price............They haven't a clue how to sell, they have never sold anything remotely similar before and had to result in going to a book to check its new value and marked it down to 2/3 of new. They have problem taken best part of a day to sell a tea cup.............

*** And my All-Time fav and the Narkest of the all. *****

Seller "If I sold it on Ebay......I could sell it for more than/twice that.".....................

A better question would be "who buys on eBay?" and a partial answer to that is people looking for hard to find items that someone somewhere in the world must have for sale.

Why not make an item available where you're most likely to sell it? Should everyone list their respective collections on a local bulletin board and hope for the best?

No argument there but alas your first comment is true too....What an Evil Web We Weave! Only one thing for it.......publish and be damned, with a high enough reserve, a contact number, a right to remove disclaimer and be sure its advertised elsewhere covers all sins.

Reserve? How tacky. Generally, I personally go with a reasonable buy-it-now price and usually also a best offer option.

Ah but a buy it now suffers from the dangerous ploy, of an anti-competitive zero day bidder/buyer/seller with a do you post to Nigeria question afterwards. U have to re-list and thats a pain. Less than 10 normally weeds them out. Then again you can get bid up and out the same way but a least you have more time to check them over.
