I was looking at my hands today and attempted so-called "pure thought," or at least my personal understanding of the phrase. Eschewing everything I have been "taught" during my life, I came to the realisation that I am not a seperate entity within the universe, but that I am in fact the one and only extra-universal body. I am not me, but us. And you are all us too. We are all connected.

Right now my program counter is at this specified address, a specific place somewhere in a memory field of four dimensions (the fourth being what we apparently perceive as time). From my perspective, right now I'm Christopher Sheffield, from Colne. One extra-universal iteration ago, I was a blade of grass or a bacterium in your sandwich. (Throw it away!!)

Iterations are infinite and I technically die multiple gazillion billion times a second.

No, just leave that to trusty Karlos! :-P

tpg, are you absolutely positive that you're not using any halucinogens or any other mind altering drugs?

Or is it just that the new neddy neighbours are playing their crappy trance-dance kak way too loud?

:-)

I just thought I should cut out all the noise, because maybe I knew somewhere inside how the extra-universe works, but was reprogrammed to forget or overlook it. Then I was just staring at my hands, observing them as they reacted and moved, and I understood it all.

You mean, we live as alike a monitor: flickering to suggest movement.

hm, I think we need a flickerfixer :-)

is that also the idea about not being able to go faster than light speed? That the universal refresh rate can't cope with it?
makes me think
if two objects move at near-light speed in the opposite direction of each other, one can say one object isn't moving (for instance, the particular object is earth) and the other moves nearly twice as fast as light speed.
but I should shut up, otherwise this thread will be moved to the science ch.

oh, i came to this conclusion a long time ago.

when i see someone who is wonderful, i think to myself, "that's the ME that is beautiful, really talented, and incredibly successful". it makes me feel good because I feel like at least I have a version of myself out there that is fabulous.

of, course, when I see morons like Bush, i think, "jesus! this is me as a retard!!!" not so good.... :-(
unfortunately, i can't seem to send out any vibs to make such people smarter. there seems to be walls separating alternate universes.

I'v thought about the "we are one" philosophy before, but ultimately rejected it. There's just too many people doing things I would never do, regardless of the shoes I might be in.

According to the Buddhists, if you can to put it into words, you're not trying hard enough. Having spent enough of my life considering it, I'm inclined to agree, but it sure does make conversation difficult.

Note that I'm completely at odds with this point of view, but:
Who are we to call ourselves individuals?

05-30-2004, 02:22 PM
I despise the thought of all human beings/human thought being linked as one big organic whatever of one. There are so many people on this Earth who are just:

1 - Despicable.
2 - Enjoy things I wouldn't like.
3 - Don't like things that I enjoy.

Quite alot of human beings make me disgusted just to be part of the same 10% of DNA, let alone species or vertebrae group :-x

@ that_punk_guy:

What drugs have you NOT been taking when this occurred to you? Your next act of philosophical magnificence is to drink some water and have a lay down. Flick the 'Enter Philosophical Rant' switch in your brain, and post what your visions were on here.

return value of 'looking at hands', 'nop' is an invalid value, since it is an action, called 'no operation'.

If we were one, we'd most likely act more symbiotically. We have empathy, but it rarely drives us, psychology generally dictates our own sexual reproduction and survival drives us.

We'd also probably have a better social vocabulary for describing group thinking. That's one of our largest communication barriors, we tend to use the same situational constructs to describe group behavior by using analogies to individual behavior, and it doesn't work.

ie: "this group hates that group" when a group itself can't think, only individuals can think, yet we pretend we can extrapolate individual situational constructs to groups by describing the group as an individual. it doesn't work, and so far, we haven't even figured out how to describe these social mechanics accurately. We are literally incapable of understanding the mechanics and creating a vocabulary to describe group situations. If we were one, we wouldn't have evolved with this mental block.

[edit - I have to add this also: If we are truely one, then humanity is not yet self aware, as we can't experience that we are one. We are either self aware and individuals, or we are NOT self aware.]

Aaarghhh. Now my brain hurts.Let me explain it:
we got an object: a ball.
we got two actions: a throw and a catch.
the ball is thrown, and you say 'I don't catch' while you should say 'no ball'

This is kind of the 'a group can experience something' thing.
