In one way, it's a good thing.
The chineese govt. shows fear. Anything that can be afraid can be defeated.
The more they prohibit, the more the chineese people will be interested in breaking the laws.

IMO because it's totally incompatible with capitalism, but that's the only reason. I think it would succeed if it were implemented on a worldwide scale. But then capitalist aliens from outer space would come along and ruin it all :-)
