1st of May opening hours in London

Okay, i have to admit. Maybe not a really appropriate topic, but i'm leaving for London (Londons Calling :-D) tomorrow and i'm wondering if the shops/mall are open SATURDAY, 1st of May?!?
Is'nt 1st of May, labourday or something? Is that a holiday overthere??!

It's not a holiday in Britain, I don't think. Just be careful to stay away from any rallies. They're usually anarchists and can get quite violent.
