Up to 3,000 people were killed or injured when two trains loaded with fuel collided and exploded at a North Korean station Thursday, hours after leader Kim Jong-il had passed through, according to South Korea's YTN television.

YTN quoted witnesses in its report while South Korea's Yonhap news agency, which spoke of widespread destruction, also said there were thousands of casualties. Neither Yonhap nor YTN gave a breakdown of deaths and injuries.

It's truly awful. Whatever negligence leads to this type of catastrophe should be regarded as mass murder.

Veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery suspicious.

NK never, ever gives reports of accidents, unless it suits them poltically. Also, the Chinese at the border report that they heard no blast, and that they didn't see any rescue operation underway.

Hmmm.... Anyone wanna collect some funds so we can rent some time on one of the for-hire spy satellites to verify these events for ourselvs, and post the pics on the forums for the wolrd to see? Or perhaps we should just air-drop (HALO style) in a covert team of Amiga.org secret agents (I nominate smerf & Fade due to their umm.... past military experiences... ;-) ) into N. Korea to gather evidence, and to then report back their findings on a designated thread? I think it's time we showed the world that when it comes to world events, of peace and war, of life and death, Amiga.org matters!!! ;-)

OR, we could just take N. Korea's account of the events, but that does seem rather boring, and considering the tensions in the region, almost certainly to be spun one way or another.

Hum,
N. Korea media haven`t said anything yet , and it looks like they wont...
But it looks like two fuel trains collided.

i had a look at some satellite images, clear skys over
Ryongchon (it`s very near the Chinese border) but there nothing on the images...
Got some S Korea news pictures of the station before the accident...

And it seems as if the station is on the main rail route so it may be a coincidence that the leader passed through nine hours before, (though his passage may have led to general confusion on the route)
