Hi

I have been looking glibly at the recent "operating systems" on offer. I use inverted commas because I seemed to have two choices. Linux or Windows. It was either the long winded Linux which reminds me of the unix days "GNU-is-Not-Linux (GNU=denial)". Or the dreaded windoze, which is a rip off basically. and then what do I find. "An Amiga OS" namely Aros, which just reminds me of the happy times I had with workbench.

OK I know that AROS at present does not look like some big contender against the Doze and the Lunix in denial. But Having found the x86 native port of AROS. WITH!! the GCC stuff ported to it
I am overjoyed. :-)

If at any stage an assembler appears and is ported to AROS
I will be in heaven

:-)

OK I have just run it from a CD image on an AMD athlon machine. It is like some dream come true.

I actually believe that if AROS does get to be more popular as the various hardware issues and so on get sorted out. This will compete with the Doze and the Lunix in denial.

Thanks to those at AROS :-)

Sophie.

Actually if you look around the contrib Dir (CD1:Contrib/Development/nasm) you will find an Assembler already on the CD :-o

Enjoy :-D

We appreciate the support.

/me vaguely wonders if AROs is truly 3.X source compatible yet, and if so, why there aren't many amiga apps for it yet.... especially the free/shareware stuff

Most of the software on the AROS CD is stuff recompiled from sources found on the AmiNET.

There is plenty of apps and games, but they are all free ones where the C source code was available.

@Sophie3x

Welcome to a.org :-D

As for the "OSes", there are also NetBSD (http://www.netbsd.org/) and the x86 optimized FreeBSD (http://www.freebsd.org/). They are more or less complete solutions, have not the Linux hype and are more safe than M$/Linux (hundrends of exploits etc.).

But AROS (http://www.aros.org/) RoX :elvis: 8-) !!!
