View Full Version : Full Spectrum Dominance

1776: The Declaration of Independence is signed by the Founding Fathers. Blessed with amazing foresight, the laws they set down there have prevented the US from falling into despotism for almost 300 years. It even goes to the length of arming the people so that the government can never become too powerful against them.
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." - Benjamin Franklin.
2004: The same country are now striving for a military plan called "Full Spectrum Dominance". This involves increasing American military strength with superior technology, mini-nukes, stealth planes, unmanned missile drones, and a host of other high tech advancements in the field of Killing Other People (TM) that they are spending 200 billion dollars on every year - even with no declared enemy and no other superpower to threaten them. This so that no enemy can ever threaten them again. Ever.
Now is that ironic, or what?
Now my question is this... if Americans believe that their democratically elected government cannot be trusted to wield so much power over them, what makes them think that they, as an unelected body shown by history to be fully capable of war crimes and use of WMDs, can be trusted to wield such power that Full Spectrum Dominance gives over the rest of the world?

(Or does 'Americans' refer to the government?)
It's answer is easy Kenny, there're others out there with a mindset like yours, that can't be trusted.

I'll drink to that! :pint:

Go out in a flash huh.
Well it might be better than going out slowly by some two-bit country with a dirty bomb.
What's that old saying, "Better dead than Red", or even pink.

I think that Fade has read my sig too many times!
Hoya!
Hum.... I believe the problem is that America wants to get the best weaponry to protect itself... The only trouble is; its enemies are NOT armies but ideas blinding individuals.
We all know the us is the most powerful country in the world but, as every martial art teacher will tell you, "power is nothing without control".
In other words, drop your guns and try diplomacy. You will not be able to kill people who are not afraid of dying but you can try doing something BEFORE they get endoctrinated.
Voila! :-)

The government. Even if Americans do vote for their government, they still have no real power over what it does. In fact, most of the time they're not even aware of what it does. Of course, many of them still agree. Nations are collectives, whether you like it or not.
@Fade
Get your priorities straight. The biggest threat to world peace isn't people who think, it's a country with a huge military that thinks its superior to everyone else and so above their laws. Power corrupts. And of course, the safer you are from attacks, the less principled you are about enforcing your will on others. That's what the Founding Fathers knew. Why don't you listen to your own constitution when it comes to foreign politics?

I don't remember who said it, but I agree fully with them. I look back to the 1990s and miss President Clinton. At least the economy was working correctly and a lot of other $hit wasnt as screwed up as it is now. But thats just one person's opinion.

I think the last really good Republican president was Dwight Eisenhower. (well Gerald Ford wasn't bad, but he wasn't exactly elected President) Even George Bush Sr. was a much better president.
The biggest crunch will come when the Chinese and to a lesser extent the Japanese stop buying US government bonds, a likely scenerio at some point. Otherwise, it would be like expecting an insurance company to sell you fire insurance while your house is on fire.
The BIGGEST THREAT TO AMERICAN SECURITY is the Bush Republican budget deficit!
Cuba? Ha!
Remove the trade sanctions and invade Cuba with MacDonalds, Burger Kings, Ford dealerships, Amway, Disney, etc. and that will destroy the Communists in short order. Maybe then Guantanimo Bay will come under Cuban law, seeing as how the US government argues that US law does not apply there.

And of course since the economy tanked in 2000 we are going to have to take the whole economy working correctly while Clinton was president with a big grain of salt.

he's still wondering what's in the glass.
"The Democrats will tell you the glass is half empty, the Republicans will tell you the glass is half full, but I ask you, ladies and gentlemen, what is in that glass? We need to be asking what's in that glass! Don't drink what they're pourin'!"
[edit - I wonder if Ross Perot ever said anything that actually meant something]

T_Bone, had you voted in a predominately Democratic district in Florida
your vote may not have been counted in the last election (http://www.ncpa.org/iss/gov/pd120501f.html).

How do they know what race spoiled how many ballots?!? Strange. And when I click on the link at the bottom "For Text", it points to an invalid page.
- Mike
In my voting district if you spoil a ballot the machine spits it back, and you have to go back through the line and exchange it for a new one.
For me the "For Text" says page no longer available, and tells how to search for it by "Simply type in the keyword(s) and click "search" to find where the information now appears."
