You obviously had not been paying strict attention. :-)

1) Talk About was misnomered to be "unmoderated" meaning it was out of control.

2) 70% of the site's posts went into that one forum, hence 70% of the site's resources went into the same small area.

3) It was impossible to police appropriately, or find anything you needed.

4) Seperate forums -- while making it a little harder on the moderators to sort out posts -- will encourage more speech on a wider variety of subjects.

The new forums have the rules clearly stated for everyone to see (no ambiguity) and spread everything out a little bit. We will also start pruning dead topics occassionally to make sure the server doesn't become over-burdened.

This place rules.

I was cautiously skeptical when they initially changed Xoops versions, but now that I've had a chance to bang around it, and they've tweaked things, I love it!

There's a science & tech forum... I dunno maybe the 'religion' one should have been a Philosophy forum.

Speel and Odin can. I can take the train to
Christiania (http://www.christiania.org/). You have to get your own! ;-)

 :lol: Ouch! But naah, just had one last summer.
But it could taste worse I tell ya!
And well, for the rest of the summer, we just had coffee with Kahlua since it was hard to keep the refrigirator cool with all the warm beer in it. (hm, let's calculate: there could three crates of beer in the refrigirator, and every evening three crates of beer were consumed by 5 men. there are 24 bottles beer each containing 0,33 litres of beer. so:
(0,33 * 24 * 3)/5 = 4.80 litres of beer were consumed per person, calculated to pints that is 4.80 / 0.6 = 7 pints.)
So I do not think the coffee Kahlua with ice cream was really the problem.

So, is this like one of those Amsterdam Coffeehouses where we can like, um, get other stuff too?Well, go to a near pub and you get app. the same impression as an 'Amsterdam Coffeehouse'. But the 'Amsterdam Coffeehouse' is a bit more quiet.

I don't get it? What was wrong with Talkabout?

Wayne explained it. It was getting too unruly, like a rosebush that hasn't been pruned in 30 years. He's trimmed it and sectioned it off from the rest of the garden so it won't overgrow the rest again.

There is a good chance that the CH/General section will get to be the same eventually though, even with the 30 day deletion...
