"The paper claims he is in a mountainous area to the north of the Pakistani city of Quetta. The region is said to be peopled with bin Laden supporters and the terrorist leader is estimated to also have 50 of his fanatical bodyguards with him."

More news sources are picking up the story now.

Granted it was a British Tabloid that originally reported it, but it does seem to be picked up quite a bit by other papers now.

Wonder if they'll ever get him alive... :-?

Well, if they do finally track him down, it would be interesting if they catch him alive or if he fights to the death. All his rhetoric suggests the latter, but his actions suggest the former.
Having said that, considering the track record of the American Intelligence community as of late, I'd be surprised if Osama is anywhere near where they think he is.

TRACK DOWN THE F****R! :ranting:
Its probablly some kind of decoy. Al Queda seems to be always one step ahead of Western Intelligence.
If they find him in Trollesund, it will be an ABSELOUTE DISGRACE!
Hoya!
Finding Osama? Yeah, right.
He got ALL Money, moral/tactical/religious support, he has been trained by CIA, he KNOWS the place he lives in, and he is surrounded by people who are NOT afraid of death.
The only way to get rid of him for sure would be to nuke the whole planet... American (and to a certain extent Occident) has created a monster. Some kinda Bedouin Terminator... (OK, this one is for the joke, I have respect for the Bedouin People).
If God, Allah or whatever exists, it is about time He does something to help Mankind.

@T_Bone
This rather reminds me of speculation I was reading back in 2002 or so that the US knew where bin Laden was but were saving his capture to be closer to the elections. At the time it sounded rather far fetched.

And for some historical context on the bin Laden / US relations...

Bin Laden will not be taken alive. The US should realise this before they send dozens of their men to their deaths to try to get a trophy to flaunt in front of the world. You're just not going to get Laden shaved and shamed in front of a camera for the American public to whoop at like Saddam. Just kill him and get it over with. A bunker-buster missile is a fairly ignominious way to be martyred.

Kill him? They're probably still paying him. Hasn't he been useful?

I remember seeing something about him being captured on the front of a UK newspaper, I was thinking of buying it, but was put off by the price ($3.95 for a newspaper??).
I went home to see if I could find a reference to it on the net, I couldn't find anything about it on the usual sites and so gave up.

Pakistan has been extremely cooporative with us, that'd be a crappy way to repay them.

Well, why should you care? You got enough nuclear missiles to back up your point being. And since you don't care about the UN.......

(Pakistan has nukes too, bombing a nuclear power is generally frowned upon )
What does Pakistan have to do with the UN? Pakistan and the US are in agreement, (ignoring for the moment the tribal leaders) and communicate directly to each other on matters of terrorism. Cooporation doesn't require mediation.
This isn't Afghanistan. Anyways, Bin Laden's past actions suggest he wouldn't fight to the death. I think the odds are good we can take him alive, and hopefully he will be, as it would provide more closure to many people.

(see the offensive character of ABM? Finally, you're not being frowned upon using your nuclear arsenal anymore)

If you like conspiracy theories, how about the fact that the
bin Laden family are close friends with the Bush family.
The bin Ladens disowned 'blacksheep' Osama, I hear you cry.
Yeah, they hate him so much that met him at a family wedding
and visited him in hospital - all while he was public enemy
No.1 and the most wanted man on the planet.
If his family, many of whom were quietly allowed to leave the
states right after the WTC disaster, really had disowned him, don't
you think they might have dropped a nod or a wink to Mr Bush
regarding his whereabouts?
;-)

maybe they did...
and he winked back!

@cecilia:
Well if you subscribe to the theory, they're all chummy mates and
are all aware of what's going on, where he is, etc.
And what happened to the "irrefutable" evidence showing
he was behind 9/11, that we were supposed to be shown?
Glaucus

Hey Wilse!
And what happened to the "irrefutable" evidence showing Or how about the current official investigation into 9/11 in which an extension was refused to allow for a more thorough report, and the limitations on the investigation team's interviews with Bush and Cheney?!? I still don't subscribe to the theory of a massive conspiracy involving G. Bush on 9/11, however, I do believe that the full truth should come out. My suspicions is that the full truth would not prove any conspiracies but instead hurt Bush in the upcomming elections (which to some may be worse).
