A4000 Graphics cards

Ok so I have a Retina Z3 in my A4000 at the moment, but have the chance to upgrade to a Cybervision 64 or a Picasso IV . Which is the better card? Cheers.

from what I hear they are pretty evenly matched, although the cv64 3d obviously has the 3d capabilities that puts it ahead, and the pIV has the possibility of expansion with a tv tuner/tv out or sound card I think.

The 3D-part on the CV64/3D is close to useless so I wouldn't care too much about that. Still it's a nice card and so is the PIV. So it won't matter I think.

I Picasso 4 comes with a flicker fixer and the CV does not. The Picasso is built better I've been tolad as well.

The Cybervision 64 DOES come with a flicker fixer - the Cybervision 3D doesn't - In my opinion the CV64 was a much better card - the Picasso IV is great too and (in my experience) more reliable than either of the Cybervisions - the CV64 was better for Mac emulation though.

That's not quite right, the CV64 has a built-in switcher so it can switch between Amiga and graphics card screens but it needs a separate scandoubler to display PAL/NTSC modes on a VGA type monitor.

There was an optional scandoubler for the CV64/3D that included a switcher, this is a separate card that plugs into the video slot alongside the 64/3D's Zorro connector.

The OP should note that there are a batch of early DCE produced CyberVision 64/3D cards that do not work in the A4000 but work fine in an A1200 with a Zorro bus board (the example I saw worked with a Z4 bus board).

As an owner of PII+, PIV, CV64/3D, CVPPC and Voodoo3 I'll give my vote to PIV!

Since none of the cards is produced, go for the one that you'll find cheaper. Although I was looking for a PIV, I ended up buying a CV64 (not 3D) and a internal scandoubler-ff for less than 80 euros whereas at the same time PIV are trading for more than 120 euros in eBay. I doubt that you'll notice any difference between the two cards anyway...

I had this cards:
The picasso4 has a programable 24bit flicker fixer (you can see aga at 120hz), lots of expansions (like concierto paloma or pablo), and a fast gfx chip.

The CV64 has a slightly faster bus but no expansion, worse resolutions and refresh and no FF.

The CV3d as the slowest of the three bus, a gfx chip slower than the p4 but faster than cv64, no monitorswitcher or scandoubler (but you can add the scandoubler-monitorswitcher module wich will give you 18bit colour)

GVP Spectrum: too slow gfx chip and small bandwitch and poor screen refresh, monitorswitcher (but still quite better than aga)

I would go for a PCI solution, but if you insist, buy a Picasso4, it's far better.

I got the Picasso IV (111Euros on eBay). Me and my A4000 thank you all for your input. :-)

Identical with the Picollo, bout as fast/slow as a Picasso2.

Aslong as you only want a WB in 1024x768, and can live with 256 colors, all
these cards are fine.
