Dear Friends:

I would like to get an inexpensive flatbed scanner to work
on my amiga 1200.
Where can I get one ?
How much will it cost ?
What do I need to hook it up to my amiga?
What software do I need to install and use?
Thank you !!!

Good luck getting any newish USB scanner working. Your best bet is very likely an older SCSI scanner. Software is a bit old too, but it's around.
You just missed two on ebay, that went pretty cheap IIRC.

or you can go back even further and get a parallel scanner, but they are slow by todays standards. Don't get a hand scanner, unless you have steady hands!

here's a thread for you:

And some other stuff:

Aminet has a lot of scanner drivers:

SCSI is best here. I had a Umax 600 (300x300 DPI). I use Scanquix as the software. Apparantly there was an Epson and HP driver in ImageFx.

Scanquix is good. I guess if Rednova's A1200 does not have SCSI, he could use a squirrel SCSI through the PCMCIA.

I have a HP 5P connected to my A1200, which is a scsi-scanner (300x300 dpi). Works nicely and costs almost nothing.

As also others stated, the best option is a SCSI scanner (cheap on eBay and similars).

If you don't have an accelerator board with SCSI option, get a Squirrel or Surf Squirrel to connect your scanner to the PCMCIA port.

I used an Epson GT-5500 10 years ago.

ScanQuix is the best software on Amiga, I think, but it's commercial.
But on Aminet there is some free software as well: check out which scanners this software (eg. Betascan) supports.

I thought one needs a "special" cable for parallel scanners?

shows here that there are some supported usb scanners (Epson/HP) through 3rd party packages. ScanQuix BetaScan fxScan.

I see the links have nothing to say however...

Here's an odd one on eBay now:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Amiga-2000-3000-4000-Flatbed-300-DPI-Color-Scanner-Sharp-model-JX-300-NICE-/230704881740?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35b715204c
It may be possible to use a USB converter cable on this. The info is not that definitive either...

Hi!

I have an Epson GT700 and modified SCSI cable but there is just one problem. I'm in London!

Good luck with your search.

HUH!!

Another darn Southern Redneck, wanting a scanner for his Amiga, yeah right, and people ih hell want ice water too!!!

Where can you get one?

Only place to try would be Ebay, unless you can find another Amiga user vacating who has a scanner.

You can try using the software with the scanner from hell if you can find one.

If you think PA is crooked, drive down to Maryland. It's the crookedest state I have seen! Agnew was just one in a long, long list.

On the scanner front - Mac users were big into SCSI scanners too. Check with your local local apple group(s).

I have an Arctec AM12S SCSI scanner on my 1200, with Scanquix 5. Yes, SQ is a commercial product, (CD-ROM, BTW) But it's a pretty decent package. I especially like the ImageFX scanner hook provided.

My only problem, is I bought the scanner and software as an Amiga package, so I certainly over-paid for mine.
And have NO money now to get a scanner for my A4000... :(
