Ok, Christmas time and I need to get a technology high and there doesn't seem to be any new reasonably price hardware out there to attract my attention, so I an thinking of buying a video game. I don't own any at the present and was wondering which of the three, PSP, Wii or XBox, people would recommend I buy.
Thanks.

I'm all about Nintendo my self, but I guess it all comes down to what kind of gamer you are.
I toyed around a bit with the Wiis of friends but I found the controllers to be ridicilously inaccurate. Apparently the XBox Kinect thingy works much butter if you're inclined to the bodily controller stuff.

+1
Nintendo is more for the fun, interactive & multi-player style games. Think family style. On-line playing is free, mostly. Highest Resolution games are 720p.
Xbox is the for the hardcore FPS players type system. This is where you'll find many of the Battle Field, Halo, on-line type of games where everyone is is trying to out do the other. On-line playing is $$$. Highest Resolution games are 1080i.
PS3 is kinda in between and is known for it's built in Blueray player and the controller has tilt sensitivity. On-line playing is free, mostly. Highest Resolution games are 1080i.
Hopefully this will help you make a more educated decision.

I am leaning towards XBox, in spite of the fact that it runs Windows, because Kinect seems to be the most interesting technology in the video game world. Playstation seems to have the best graphics. Wii has some interesting family games. But for me I think it's going to come down to Kinect.
I'm not a gamer, I've resisted the modern video game world thus far, I just want to try something new. Thanks to those who responded.

The thing with the Wii is that the controls are wonderful, so long as who ever programmed your favorite game made them so.
Also there is a lot more than mere family games on the system. There are plenty of RPG's, Action titles, classic 2D, retro (via emulation), horror adventure, sword fighting, platformer, games that transcend category, you name it!
Plus all those great classics that Nintendo made themselves!

Motion controls are a joke, they're a devolution of video-game control schemes. The aim shouldn't be to put further disconnect between player intent and game response. And aside from perhaps some physics puzzles, where there could be a straightforward correlation between on-screen action and player movement, I don't see how a natural control scheme could be developed that doesn't just come down to a fixed set of gestures replicating the function of button input on a controller.
Every demo I've seen for the thing has been "look, we set it up so you can make a skipping motion to skip a rock on a pond;" that sounds impressive until you realize that it's basically leading to games that have a fixed set of action inputs that could easily be mapped to a button controller and save your arms the trouble; otherwise you're playing "guess the gesture" like you used to have to guess exactly which verb to use to make the parser understand what you want in old text adventures. Or, the game just tells you what to do, in which case, what's the point?
The 360 isn't a bad console by any means (indeed, it seems to have taken over the PS2's throne as the affordable-but-capable console with the humongous third-party library,) but Kinect is a waste of time and money.

Have they upgraded the firmware or what ever on that thing yet? I have a few friends with them and they don't ever use it now because they say they have to clear out the whole living room to make room to play and be far enough away from the cam. Plus they say that the other people have to stand out of the camera's range so that it does not detect their body movements too.
On top of that they've said it's a little unresponsive. Though I did hear that Microsoft was supposed to fix all that...
...sadly they've entered the game of releasing things before they are really ready for the market.
I.E. The White 360's always ended up getting red rings or eating disks.
Sony on the other hand got things right this time around. The PS2 was well known for having used cheap components and needing to be sent in for repairs often, but the PS3 (like Nintendo products) seems quite stable.
Sadly the PS3 has been said to be hard to code for so no one wants to write for it hardly.

I'm a Wii man, but that's mostly beacause my Gamecube broke and the Wii is backwards compatible.
If you like to play first-person shooters on a console, then the X-box is apparently the best choice. If you prefer Third-person shooters, then the PS3 is the best one.
As other say - it's about what kind of gamer you are.

That's funny you say this as the other day i was watching youtube videos where they are comparing games for the xbox to the ps3 and i can't tell the difference. In my opinion the only difference between the ps3 and the xbox is the price. The ps3 has a blue ray player built in and i feel it is more functional than an xbox in that it seems more ideal for home theatre stuff. But for games there is no difference in any way. For the record i use the ps3 :)

The new model is removing Gamecube support. :/

And really on most game that are made for both systems you won't. What it really comes down to is game play. The Wii cannot touch the other two in the way of graphics, but the (good) games on it combined with the controller make it much more natural for motion games that still let you have controller input.
The Xbox's controller fits better in my hand and is more desirable in the FPS hard-core circles while the PS3 is more functional for complex games...

So you are saying that the difference comes down to the controllers? I have never looked at it like this but yeah - it makes sense. For me the Playstation controller fits perfectly in my hands and i simply love the thing. I have never really bothered with the xbox so i can't really say too much about it. I have always preferred the Ps3 to the xbox simply because i hate microsoft.

Well, the controller isn't the ONLY thing, but something to take into consideration. And for the record, I never bought an Xbox until I found out that I could mod the SNOT out of it!
BTW, what type of games do you play on the PS3?

I will give Microsoft that...
Their controllers are as near to perfection as you can get...
In regards to gamepads.
On the other hand, when the controls are written correctly, the Wii's set up is a wet dream!!!

+1!
I like Mario Kart Wii with Nun-chuck, not the wheel (even though it's a cool idea). You get the precision of the controller pad side by side with the motion sensing usage of the Wii-mote.
And the Mario Party / Raving Rabbids party games ROCK!!!!

Racing on the Wii is a blast!!!
And I usually don't find myself playing race games!
I also can't get enough of Red Steel 2 and the new Zelda's sword mechanics!!!
It's a work out, but addictive none the less. :)
Btw UAE for the Wii just got an update... ;)

I love call of duty but my internet is not so good so i think i might skip MW3 and buy something else. Next week i will buy the new Assassins Creed. Assassins Creed is amazing with the graphics, attention to detail and the way it is all scripted etc. Can't wait :)

There is more titles that I'd certainly add to this list, and a few that I feel definitely score higher than some of those listed, but still, this is a pretty descent list if I do say so my self.
