Trouble With Me Grannies Old Drawers... (Wasn't sure where to put this one)... :)

Hi as I believe that Amiga.org is the site to help out us old furniture restorers, I was hoping someone could help me out here with an old 3 Drawer Walnut bedroom chest that was handed down to me by my Grannie who had it handed down to her from her Grannie that she got from an American sailor during the Boar War... :)

The problem is sticky drawers, mainly the bottom one of the three... :(

I've tried using the best beeswax and even old chip pan oil but neither of these have solved me sticky drawers problem... :(

An old boy in the pub told me to either plane or sandpaper a bit of the top of each drawers side but as we all know you can't do this to an old piece of furniture like this as it will decrease it's value not to mention ruin almost 100 years of natural patina of the wood... :(

So do any of you wise cabinetmakers here on a.org have any useful tips to help me get me Grannies old drawers to slide down more easily cos at my age it's a real pain when you've got sticky drawers like this... :)

PS: it's an old Regency style set with the genuine brass handles, bullnose edges and fluted 3 quarter twist legs made in the late 1890's by Walters & Sons of Smithfield, sadly Walters & Sons have moved into the world of computing and no-one there can help me with my sticky drawers problem but they did sell me a nice Dell laptop which they said was genuine Victorian period... :)

I was having trouble with me old Victorian style sash windows too actually (early Ver 1.0 models) ... :(

But I solved that one by bricking them up with old used iMacs instead (Now Windows is a thing of the past)... :)

Keeps out the draughts you know in these cold Scottish summers... :)

Now, that's going to make it hard to pull your wood back out of the hole ya see, and the more you pull the more it's likely swell. Maybe you should of gone for the dry root and used talcum powder instead.

I know... but just chill. I'm sure Franko's humour is like Marmite: you either love it or hate it. Honestly, just don't get so worked up and put him on "ignore" if his posts bother you. Some of us enjoy some humour with our daily lives.

Personally, I don't see people leaving because of Franko. The same people are kicking around and a few have got bored waiting for new hardware. Expect to see a new spike in posts once the FPGA Arcade, Natami and X1000 go on sale.

Grandad used to use soap on stuck drawers, if it stuck he would just get a bar of soap and wipe it on the edges of the stuck drawer.

Another good use for soap was to wash out our mouths whenever we started cursing like some people that answer your posts. He always said a filty mouth needs to be washed so it would be nice and clean. Always worked for grandad, because I never cursed around him again.

True the old soap on drawers might just do the trick... :)

You've just gotta remember to use it on the right drawers and rinse them properly otherwise when you put on yer drawers and break wind, it can be quite embarrassing when bubbles start floating up from your trousers... :o

As for washing out mouth's, back when I was a lad grannie and grandad didn't wash our mouths out with it, it was actually used as a hearty meal back in them days (we were really poor), mind you at christmas time we were fed the nice scented Pears stuff instead of the usual carbolic which although not too bad got a bit monotonous 7 days a week...nice with peas though (at least grannie told us they were peas)... :)

Hey Lando. I will agree with you that this forum should be in the Coffee House because other than the initial joke, it really doesn't have anything to do with Alternative Operating Systems.

That being said, we all have our differences and just because you don't get into this type of humor doesn't mean it is what you have called it. We have all made friends here and as friends, we pal around and joke with one another. We also talk Amiga and Amiga related things, but our world doesn't revolve around them. So we talk about, joke about, sometimes fight about different things!

When I went to users meetings, of course they were mainly Amiga related. But we also got together for pizza, some of us were also into video games and we'd play around with those and some were into making music which involved a bunch more tech then an Amiga and sometimes didn't even USE an Amiga.

Amiga is the common bond we all have here. Whatever shape or form we use it in, it is what makes us one. But we are not the Borg; we have different minds, different senses of humor, different jobs and different personalities. Please do expect all of use to act, comment and respond only in the way you would like, that would really be still and boring...

9 out of 10 posts Franko has either not responded to or has given good, helpful responses. So I feel your response is a bit over the top. Of course this is different if you select the "New Posts" tab at the top of the page but that covers all the areas on the site including Coffee House posts which are open areas for people to talk about whatever they feel like.

Yup that post by xPhilx had me in stitches, it was even funnier than the expression on Vince McMahhons face last night when C.M. Punk screwed the WWE and buggered of with the Title... :roflmao:

Can't wait till 2:am to watch RAW live and see the fallout from this one, the WWE is almost as dysfunctional as the Amiga Community... :D
