Italy and Germany were one big sort of a nation during the beginning of what you would call "*First* Reich", the Holy Empire of Pure #### or whatever that was called.

Hitler & Mussuolini were friends, Hitler did not intent to "get home" Italy.

Have fun,
McTrinsic

"Holy roman empire of german nation" is the closest possible translation,
but the time when Italy was part of it was very limited, (14th century) and it
wasn't even really part of it, just that the german Kaiser was also the italian King ....

And back than about 1/3 of Italy was the Vatikan-state.

The Reich had really no more meaning and power in those days than the
UN has today, and the unity it had in it's beginning (9th century) was long
lost. Ever wondered why the national anthem speaks so much about "unity"
when it was written in the mid 19th century ?

Indeed, Italy was unified quite late anyway, being but a collection of city states.

umm...I think Cyberus was just poking a little fun because your avatar says you're from Italy, Germany. I never knew there was an Italy in Germany either.
I don't think he was trying to insinuate anything about you.

With err... barbarossa or summit.... I thought it was called the Holy Roman Empire(nothing actually in common with Rome the empire), and that it lasted about as long as its first ruler...

Kronos

@jeffimix

It was called roman to make it clear that the german Kaiser was infact the
direct follow-up the roman casears, making him the wordly ruler of all
christians (with the pope being the religious one), and it lasted until
Napoleon smashed all the smaller german kingdoms who where pretty
much independent countries, but neverless still part of the (meaningless) Reich.
