why do so many hate amigaworld, I've always found amigaworld and infact any Amiga forum quite friendly and helpful. Ok I do kind of see some of the favouritism towards one camp or another but I see that pritty much any forum, like to me amiga.org seem more classic/crazy camp, but you do a good gob at balancing and I think its difficult for any community to keep it all troll free and neutral when there so many different camps and choices.
But any way back on topic, any one know what exactly happened?

They're too uptight and thin skinned. You really have to work here to offend someone. For me, the problem with place is that there is too much totally off topic posts here... A.org regulars can wander two, three pages totally off-topic with some nonsense Sunday weather chat, without anybody caring about the actual topic...
Mostly I have to auto-skim over most of the crap to find an actual on-topic post... but then I don't visit this place that often so what ever.
Hell, I think even Moo Bunny is more on topic than this place?

Wow, dont think Ive seen anyone fail at turning something around quite so heavily for a long, long time, so good job.
Nothing wrong with being off topic sometimes. I enjoy the social aspect of amiga.org myself, but there's also some good, grounded in reality amiga chat here as well. The problem for me with amigaworld.net is that it's a haven for completely delusional people who wont hear anything negative about their systems of choice but will instead bury thier heads ion the sand going, "nahnahnahnahnah" everytime something comes up that they dont like to hear (even if it is true), combined with a few people that continuously bait them.
And while we're objectifying the woman, I dont think I'd touch any of them with someone elses barge pole even. Especially the A-Eon girls. The one on the right has more nose than breasts. Being A-Eon theyre probably high maintanance anyway, cost way more than theyre worth :)
p.s. sorry ladies, I jest. Im sure you all have great personalities :)

I wasn't going to say anything about Amigaworld.net but that is completely true. At least Amiga.org is accepting of everything Amiga and all the variants. You can talk about any of the Amiga systems here without worry of upsetting anyone (for the most part). You can even talk classic 8bit Commodore here if you want to.

Just checked Amigans. Looks like something happened and they had to build a new site. That's just what I've gleaned from reading a few topics. They apparently have a back up of the old site, but it seems this wasn't a planned change.

I had a quick look last night, and it seems to me that their nameservers are down. Personally I would be surprised if a nameserver got hacked, because usually it's the only role for a particular machine, so all that needs to be done is for the OS to be reasonably locked down and patched, the DNS service too and perhaps an SMTP service too for reporting.
Plus, if the nameserver got hacked, then why not stick an additional "fingers up" at the site administrators by changing the DNS for the website to point at a "we hacked you" type page - I'm sure there's one on the Internet somewhere so the hackers don't give away any information that might identify them. It's what I would expect from a standard prank hack job.
@BozzerBigD. Cool avatar :)

Many of the long term members of the site are already members here, myself included. Look, the 'forum wars' was a long time ago.
There's no need for the hostility.

@templario: so it is enough for you your os4 hardware to break, and being quite reasonably expelled from aw.net for a week, for calling others members names, to hate your previously most loved site? see no reason at all.
If they did get hacked, then they should be back online with the previous days backup after making sure the hole is closed. If they dont have a yesterdays backup, then I'm not sure how much sympathy I can have. I hope this isnt another case of a large website run without backups, but it seems that there is a huge amount of incompetency when it comes to hosting..

I had a quick look last night, and it seems to me that their nameservers are down.
I took a look couple of days ago already and here are my findings:
- Both nameservers and the web server appear down to the internet. None of the servers respond to any packets from the internet, no RST to SYNs or reply ICMP ECHO.
- Other servers in the same network block are working.
- Traceroute to other servers in the same network block shows this:
7 217.118.16.26 (217.118.16.26) 375.181 ms 359.319 ms 319.435 ms
8 62.193.251.115 (62.193.251.115) 260.044 ms 288.779 ms 300.288 ms
9 62.193.231.xx (62.193.231.xx) 379.572 ms 249.112 ms 299.767 ms
...while traceroute to amigaworld.net web server and both name servers shows this:
7 217.118.16.26 (217.118.16.26) 336.343 ms 269.567 ms 369.027 ms
8 * * *
9 * * *

This is really interesting as it would suggest that the amigaworld.net servers are nullrouted early on.
It could well be that the servers themselves are running just fine on the background, but are just totally severed from the internet.
Obviously none of this explains why this would be happening.

I'd hate to hazard a guess, but perhaps they were using a Hosting Provider that was either hacked (10%) or closed down suddenly. Doubtful this has much if anything to do with Amigaworld, but if they had a backup, it should be easy enough to find a new host and change DNS servers. Could be back online in an hour or so.
Hell, for that matter, I could provide them with a hosting account.

i can very well understand being bored of these pointless bashing over at aw, and for different reasons getting fed up with the kind of community. but actually you were very much part of this yourself, so i dont understand why out of the sudden you get so much offended the first time they didnt back you up completely. btw you were calling opi a fascist for *no* reason. i really find it distasteful. so why do you then show up here with this ss-porn avatar, or what it is?

Well, I answer you step to step.
The Opi attack, well, I recognize that I was wrong, because Opi was the Mo... users that who misunderstood or manipulated my words to be expelled.
Other point is that forum the expelled makes anyone, without giving an opportunity to defend me, for example I was expelled but nobody was the executor, and after of Opi's incident I was threat for the second administrator the same that don't know who was the executor the first expelled.
Second the porn avatar that worry you:
http://www.ironsky.net/site/propaganda/pictures/
Well, the avatars I saw avatars more porn and more offensives, if you are offend, well, it is incredible for me, because you often offend in other forum, because there there are many avatars offensive.
And I finish the discussion, that now I'm of visit not for discuss, this is Amiga.org not Amigaworld.

Well do those other services also use the amigaworld.net name servers or even run on the same box as the main web server? If so, then clearly those services as down as well. If some of the services are running elsewhere however it can well be that the only thing stopping those services is the DNS server outage.

Well, I usually don't get distrurbed by avatars and/or tough speech and such things (I even like to break conventions ofgood taste/establishment) , but especially as a German I am a bit allergic when I see SS-Runes (or other nazi insignia) in a context that may get misinterpreted. I mean the girl doesn't look bad, plus she's looking prototypish German - and wears a uniform with nazi signs. The picture is not further commented by your avatar or sig - hence it could easily get misunderstood as a glorification of the nazi regime. And that is one of the really few things I reall don't like. I guess most Germans (and even more those who suffered from the Nazi regime) may feel offended by your avatar.
While I doubt you glorify the Nazi regime I suggest to better change the avatar to avaoid confusion or give a reference in your signature. At least in Germany you would ask for trouble with this avatar - showing nazi signs is forbidden by law (exceptions are for art and documentation).
On www.juliadietze.de there are plenty nice pictures of her w/o nazi signs...

It's been a bit of a rum time for amiga forums of late. Amigans.net, AmigaWorld.net and Moobunny have all had outages and MorphZone has been without an active admin for a while (not sure if this is fixed yet).
Also, by the look of it, amigans is still limping along without any of it's legacy data reinstated. If they leave it too long, they'll face the dilemma that the data they've amassed in the meantime is important to them too.

I know, and I also know that the movie is a comedy. I don't have anything against the movie, nor Julia Dietze. But I have a little problem with showing pictures with SS-Runes where the context is not clear. If the picture had a link to the movie - no prob. but w/o it can get misunderstood.
Don't get me wrong, I usually sh*t on being pc, but nonetheless I wouldn't put up an avatar with "kill all jews, communists, disabled and non conformists" (and that's what the SS stands implicitely for) *w/o* further explanation why I use such a bold statement.

The german self whipping over the incidents that happened several decades ago is something I still find it very difficult to understand. Okay there's this "Those Who Forget History Are Doomed to Repeat It" and all that, but I'd think that at some point some distance should be taken. Perhaps a little off topic but I had an issue last November with IntuitionBase when I think someone tried to DoS the site with the shear ammount of data I did that day...
On the 15th of November the site transfered 4030909956 Kilobytes of data, which is about 3.75 Terabytes of data.
I'm just grateful I don't pay by the GB otherwise I'd be in trouble for that month.....

Hey Daz. Just an FYI you have to update the link from the home page of IntuitionBase to the S****horpe Amiga group. The one in your sig works the one at IntuitionBase doesnt.
Cheers and "keep it active."

It's been a bit of a rum time for amiga forums of late. Amigans.net, AmigaWorld.net and Moobunny have all had outages and MorphZone has been without an active admin for a while (not sure if this is fixed yet).
Maybe you missed this post (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showpost.php?p=607268&postcount=12) from the MorphZone admin.

Hope aw.net recovers soon. I like that place. Discussiosn pretty often turn couraged there and there is an overall bias to OS4, but all in all I like that place.
@ Templario
Sorry, I know the german laws with the nazi symbols, I'm trying to promote this Finland movie, because it has success perphaps will be premier in my little city, Curiosly the actress is from your country, and I think that she is the good in this movie, about the runas, well, againd about the german laws, sometimes are very strict, I'm agree with the nazi use, but you don't forget that the SS runes and the swastika are pagan and mistycal symbols, that the nazi appropriated for their mytical madness, other totalitarian regines fascist, comunisn, etc., also done.
Also we forget that in the one dollar bill there is a mason symbol, etc.
And when the movie will be premiere, I'll change the avatar.
