My Guesses are:

#1: A MouseMaster! I am guessing this because they are very useful and I really really need 5 of them! If I get one for free from u then I only hafta buy 4 more. :) It u don't know what a MouseMaster is then it is a little switchbox that allows you to switch between joystick and mouse so u don't hafta constantly unplug mouse and plug in joystick , repeat, over and over and over again during Amiga gaming parties.

#2: The adaptor to allow connecting PlayStation controllers (including guitar) to Amiga! If I win one of these then I will only hafta buy 3 more. Woohoo!

#3: A real joystick with real 2 buttons for playing Amiga 2-button games. This would be very nice!

I've already got one of each of these.

It also coincides pretty well with the release time of the two EfikaMX products ("Smartbook" and "Smarttop"). "Why have just one when you can have two. Maybe with UAE and OS3.x preinstalled and preconfigured, otherwise it doesn't really match. :)

Humm hummm, I think like other that it'll be something not very expensive (hope)..
- something like USB adapter;
- memory expansion (128MB or 512MB);
- mouse adapter;
- a little ZORRO II/III graphic card (??);
- turboaccelerator for all AMIGA;
- AMIGA.COM website reopen ;)
- AMIGA sound card with multiple PAULA (like my old project with Exolon/FAIRLIGHT)
- a NEW AMIGA 500 in a joystick (like C64 Direct-to-TV);

AmigaTWO (i.e. the next-gen AmigaONE)

You might have been joking, but there is actually truth behind your statement. Amiga One was supposedly the first PPC NG Amiga from Amiga Inc (based on the Pegasos and "Escena"). It would be single core, hence the "one". It would be followed by a dual core variant at some time, and that would actually be called "Amiga Two". It's teh true!!1!

Really, it is!

:)

EDIT: And this is probably why Hyperion persists with the rather strange version numbering of their OS, i.e.:

OS4.1
OS4.1.1
OS4.1.2 ... etc, etc

What I'm getting at is that IIRC OS4.2 would supposed to have SMP. And maybe they are saving that particular version number for this occasion for "nostalgic" reasons? Not that it will ever have *true* SMP, at least not in a way that it would be recognized as such by "outsiders", at least not without breaking the last parts of "Amiga" it has in it. And I guess it will still be called "AmigaONE"... ;)

Yeah, but I'm probably wrong as Pyromania explicitly mentioned _classic_ amiga hardware...

so here's me scratching my head again as to what could it be that comes in two-s...

The only thing that springs to mind as something that might actually be useful is a dual graphics card solution. Final guess.

Most things have been covered, so my guess is based on my wishlist more than anything, but being that discreetfx have a bit of a video background it's not completely unrealistic a guess, and that's some sort of rtg gfx hardware for 68k classics w/o the need for pci busboard,zorro slots, etc.

IMHO, I believe that prospect is way too ambitious a project for just about anyone to tackle these days. Same goes with most any video, audio or CPU upgrades. Besides, Jens/Individual Computers and GVP already have those bases covered.

Nah... I'm thinking something much, much simpler and universal here. Especially the way they verbalized the rollout: "help you get more enjoyment out of your Amiga". With emphasis on 'Amiga'. Period. Not every Amiga has a Zorro/Fast/Video slots (some models have surface mounted CPU's too), so I'm thinking maybe some kind of a new DB9 input device, a joystick or something that has already been mentioned.

Maybe an external FF/SD, external removable mass media storage (perhaps off the parallel port) or... ?

Absolute best upgrade for ANY Amiga would be to patch gaming software that relies on pressing 'UP' to jump, to a discrete button on a 2+ button pad or joystick and completely removing the instruction that allows a jump when accidentally pressing 'UP'. Either way, can't wait to see what it is :lol:

Well as good a guess I can think of. It's hardware, from a mostly software company so it can't be something too sophisticated or expensive. Some kind of adpater.

'Retro fans" - I equate this also with 'retro gaming' so that's what it can read into the post.

A dual PPC accelerator (68k + ppc) like the Phase5's. Why have one PPC amiga when you can have 2 ? It would also include a gfx card and some sort of controler (hence 3= 1 or 1= 3 or whatever...).

This would be a pretty good excuse for some of us to get a system that can run the latest versions of the OS since it could also be used as a 68k accelerator and can run classic hardware banging apps.

I was going though some old amiga magazines and I think I've found something....

Siamese v4,PCI Amiga
Siamese RTG v4 software...

Pc/Alpha ....AmigaOS3.x/WinNT/Mac(BasiliskII,Shapeshifter,etc)...

Siamese v4 PCI Amiga also has a full but miniaturised Amiga Video slot on board.
This with a special adaptor and external box will hold the Newtek Video Toaster card.

You guys forgot about me....
http://www.amiga-hardware.com/showhardware.cgi?HARDID=41

DiscreetFX has the iStore , I guess they are getting ready to sell Mac software
to amiga users to run on AOS4.x systems(iFusion for Aos4)???...

They say Things Happen in Three's.....
Three OSes running at the same time in one system....A MultiOS environment...???

Pc/Alpha ....AmigaOS3.x/WinNT/Mac(BasiliskII,Shapeshifter,etc)...
MacOS x86 version could have AmigaOS3.x/MacOSx/WinXP
A1/Sam ppc version could have AmigaOS4.x/AmigaOS3.x/Mac(ifusion ppc)

Why have just one when you can have two...
Maybe you can run multiple Siamese v4/PCI Amigas at the same time..???

Retro Amiga fans will be very pleased...

Dont Laugh at me I know how to spell Positive.....:):):):)

I keep coming up with a 3 in 1 device that for audio i/o, av editing in different formats to accomodate multi countries, along with a virtual acceleration for 3d rendering.

1) Breaking the sound barrier = audio i/o device, maybe mp3
2) virtual processor for 3d rendering acceleration
3) a/v i/o in varying formats to allow outside the US to enjoy a/v editing on the Amiga.

And 1 = 3 works as in you need improved audio to do a/v editing better.

So there is my guess.

Must say I am a bit disspointed by this also. With all the hype and countdown and all thought it was something special, like new ppc card, or video card or of the scale of minimig or something.

Cool idea on the flyer stuff. For the folks in Europe this Flyer system as great. I used two of these daily until 2005/2006. The systems wre retired simply becuase I could no longer relaibly source parts (Amiga 4000's) and the fact that the Tricaster and a VT5 and good laptop are easily replaceable and more versatile.

IT would be cool to see the flyer and Toaster 4000 integrated into 1 card using and FPGA solution. You could probably do the whole thing in one chip I reckon.

EDIT: And this is probably why Hyperion persists with the rather strange version numbering of their OS, i.e.:

OS4.1
OS4.1.1
OS4.1.2 ... etc, etc

Actually, its OS4.1 Update 1, OS4.1 Update 2. The reason for it is very simple indeed; the updates to OS4.0 were called "July update", or "Final update", with no consistency.

Now, there is consistency. Think of "Update" like "Service Pack", or "Boing Bag" but not as horrible.

I don't usually comment on these things, but yeah...very disappointing...
DiscreetFX should have known better than to overhype a rather simple item such as a joystick, as a mystery hardware. Totally unnecessary, and what should have been done was simply post a news item about how batches of brand new joysticks are in.
It'd be different if you indicated ahead of time that this were a fun guessing game, don't take it too seriously type of thing.

Anyways...not that it matters...just felt like posting my 2 cents worth of comments. :-)

I wish it was more of a substantial product. Although for the video toaster market the SSD packaged solution is very nice.

The Joystick is nice, having a local North American source.

I don't want to blame DiscreetFX here, they had their own excitement. Maybe we are at fault, since many of the users hyped this up themselves (myself included) about really cool classic hardware like new ppc accelerators...

So we did it to ourselves! :)

Oh I didn't think it'd be anything of the kind - besides, a run of new PPC cards...the cards alone would cost more than that xk1k1000x thing.

No, I thought they'd be going in the direction of maybe a new ZIII card of some kind, or ... ****, I dunno. Commissioned a mini-mig aga run or something.

Grabbing two bulk PC items off the shelf and foisting them off with the hype they did though is just stupid.

Hey!
On page six I did come close on item #3 ; I was thinking of AF when I said an emulator not UAE ,just didn't expect all this hype over things that already exist.

I am sorely disappointed by the promtion of items practically identical toitems long available elsewhere .

Joysticks are nothing special,I have dozens-every ex-Amigan/C= user has loads they throw in the deals.

IDE and SCSI to flash and SSD adapters can be ordered direct from Hong Kong-I have had them for months.

Amiga Forever is a very nice package for those who want a ready to go solution-I have had AF for years.

Let me again publically thank Discreet for the A4D from Christmas contest.

That said,this "new hardware" announcement deserves a big yawn,if not a BOO!

No wonder people think Amiga users are stupid in these days of quad-core multi-GHZ Wintel machines!!!!

@Pyromania,

I guess I should have directed the above question to you in the first place. I could not find the size of the SSD's that are for sale on the DiscreetFX site, or any specific information regarding connection to a Flyer card SCSI controller with or without adapters needed.

I have purchased several newer Ultra160 & Ultra320 SCSI drives to replace my aging Flyer drives, but have not yet gotten them setup and recognized by either of my Flyer systems. If I am unable to use the drives I already have purchased, I would be interested in purchasing another alternative, but need details.

07-01-2010, 12:10 PM
Personally I would have welcomed an announcement of all the products that DIDN'T try to fool us into thinking something entirely new and fantastic was coming.

It is good that you are providing all three products .

But I wonder if anyone really thinks mocking customers is a way to increase sales?I once worked for a tractor dealer who ridiculed his customers who wanted parts for older equipment.He hoped that would be shamed into buying new tractors.He is long ago out of business, and lasted only a few years .

I have to still think Commodore's ads of the 1990s were the most ineffective as those ads used minimal images of the computer but instead too many non-computer cartoon figures and lots of words that readers simply flipped past.And spending your ad budget in magazines for people who already own your product is odd targeting if you want new customers.

Certainly this generated a lot of interest.

Good news to me!
The $99 (or $149 for 2) for a SCSI SSD seems like a good price - I dont have to do any hunting to find a rare scsi2ide converter and small IDE SSD that will work together, so
thank you Pyromania.
I'm guessing the capacity will be in the 1 to 4Gb range - which is fine - I want to get one to replace the 4Gb conner (50pin) drive I have on my GVP040 in my A2000.
I hope it will work with HDtoolbox and use normal RDBs ok...

I assume an external drive scsi bay and the flyer scsi cable are still needed for this solution. Some photos of the setup would be nice.
