Memory slots where?

Varthall

It has an ATI Radeon chipset onboard... this is really something I would have liked to see on the full sized A1 mobos, an integrated video chipset as standard as the original Amiga design. It would make it an even cooler machine, at least for demo coders :)

I think the memory slot is that white bar under the IDE headers right of the BIOS.

In Total Amiga, Alan said it is Micro ITX (17cm x 17cm)

Wow! Now THIS is hot. :)

If I got one, I could consider doing some of the cool projects I've seen on mini-itx.com (http://www.mini-itx.com) ...

How about an AmigaOne in a C64 case? :)

That'd be intense.

Yeah ...
I have two VIA Epia motherboards of the same form factor myself, and you will be amazed when you see them in real life. Put a CD record next to it and you will get a good reference of their size ...

Hmmm, I do have an old C64. Since I don't have the PSU I don't no if it works... I could always us one of the 1541 dirve cases. I know one of those doesn't work and it has that nifty opening for the CD!

Price is everything. The EPIA's are a bit pricey themselves...its a good market though, not only are they lower in CPU horsepower, and less costly to ship, and less costly to make in terms of lack of expansion options...

but people pay a premium for them. People will doubly pay a premium for a PowerPC design, well for some people that is a detractor, but for those of us in this market, its not.

BUT, BUT, it still has to be within reason.
You all can decide for yourselves, but I say it has to be less than $300 U.S. or it will be priced out of the hobbyist market and into the hardcore-amiga-fan-only-maybe-there-are-2000-at-most market.

Looks promicing, and they have managed to emliminate slack out of it.
Now, if they can sell it in price that's attractive it'll have nice
chances on outside Amiga-markets too.

Before commenting much more I'd like to see bottom side of board too.
:-)

EDIT .. and of course.. Date of availablility would be nice (with
priice info). Otoh, I'm sure there will be more official info at the
time it's ready to be sold.

Stunning.

Except for one thing:
-Onboard Radeon good, but...
-Onboard Radeon with no prospect of DVI panel interface...
... :-o

Seriously, that won't stop me buying, but it seems like an oversight that could reduce the longevity of the board. Or is there a pin header for it snuck elsewheres?

(Remember that the good ol' DVI socket does reserve space for analog signals, so assuming one *could* be/have-been crammed in to the already tight board design, you wouldn't lose analog functionality; you'd just need a fairly cheap adapter, available at any Staples or the like.)

I'm guessing this should also keep the XE the 'professional' model for the time being.

Well, the black din connector next to the VGA looks suspiciously like an S-Video connector. That could be a bonus for connecting to TV sets etc.

I wonder if the Radeon chip (any ideas as to which chipset they'd go with? My guess is the 7500) will have onboard memory (which I can't see on the photos) or shared memory? My guess is shared memory. Hopefully all these cut corners can bring the price of the motherboard, ram & CPU to around USD $300. If they can manage that then I can see a future for it (and in my future as well ;-) ).

My guess is the 7500

I think Alan specifically mentioned the 7500 being at a good price point a while ago. I wish it had at least the 9200 core onboard, but that would increase the price. It would also increase performance though.

Laptop ram isn't that expensive when you take into account of the top flight PC stuff (Rambus and the ultra fast ddr type cost).

I'm actually impressed if I'm honest with myself. Damn you Eyetech, I may well end up buying one of these things if you ain't careful!!!!!!!!! ;-)

My missus is going to go spare when I point this to her... something along the lines of "I thought you weren't going to buy another amiga?"

I doubt very much however that should I get this board, it will ever see OS4 on it though.

All I need now is to build myself a Walker shell and the thing shall be complete! :-o

Damn the lad who mentioned mini-itx.com, I almost bought one of the boards off of them. Would make a nice little bsd/linux box. £75 for a complete system.... insane!

XBox on paper uses a Geforce4 chip, in reality this chip runs at the same speed as a Geforce2mx....

I'm not 100% certain but I think that the chip in the A1 is in the same ball park performance wise.

I'll have to go find some info on this to backup this though...

This would be my perfect upgrade path for my next Amiga system, pending the pricing for the board. I'd be willing to pay no higher than $300 for the board with 64MB memory and processor (G3 or G4). I'm not looking for heavy performance but rather something I can have to play with to get my Amiga fix. Swap out the Atricia S for an Sa or P with or without OS4 and I'm all over this thing.

Now to start looking at deep flat panel monitors. :D

Xbox is an example of what you can do with a x86 hw.., sell it for nothing with 3 games included and now they have a new deal...with 5 games and 2 controllers , but still people aint buying them..

why is ps2 the king ? ... not the price anyway!

anyway if the amigaone lite is priced within certain range (ie for the entry level user) then
i am pretty sure it will be a success..

It’s alot closer to an integrated Geforce 4 MX 420 (with shared memory) with a DirectX 8.X GPU core (with data compression tricks).

From memory;
XBOX's total bandwidth is '128bit x 266Mhz DDR' (similar to the nForce I's bandwidth) .

Bandwidth of 64bit x 133Mhz (~1 GB/s) is for Pentium III/Celeron hybrid. The rest of the total bandwidth(i.e. ~4GB/s) is distributed to APU (similar to Nvidia’s Sound Storm) and GPU. In terms audio solution, it blows away the VIA686B’s Via audio solution.

I've seen playstations and Dreamcasts crash on odd occations. But not so often as to wonder but for a moment before carrying on where you left off.

XBox.... games here in the uk are STILL £10 than for the equivilent game for the gamecube or ps2... what good is a cheep console if you're going to be taking it up the backside (not litterally obviously) every time you buy a game?

That and its plain ugly, not to mention it wieghs more than my water cooled athlon pc. Carrying it from the shop to your car has been known to injure peoples backs!!! (OK I can't back that up but I'd not be suprised at all if it did).

ermm old news, i read this 2 months ago.

Usb2.0 , 133mzh pci (1) , IDE RAID controller (4 devices max) Udma,2xAgp Onboard , Ac97 sound ,Cardbus slot , 10/100/1000 Mbit ethernet , IEEE 1394 Firewire + usual legacy stuff.
TV out /ntsc/pal , PCI RiserCard (ie an 4 slot extension maybe?)

also floppy drives for usb does excist so all you need to do is rip out yer old amiga floppy and insert it into yer usb case...or maybe not :)

Cpu is changeable , but it doesnt say anything about clocking....also a last note must be that this is proto and by all means not a final product.

Can I get it without paying Amiga Tax? I just want a board to run Freevo on, considering all the mini ITX boards I've seen so far have crappy VIA/S3 graphics, a Radeon of any sort would be welcome :)

But as to the question of permission to host the pictures... ;-)

Max was a bit quick on this one. But as long as everyone understands that this is a pre-production board (and I realise that my own comment above only adds to the confusion, sorry. I was half-asleep and very confused myself at the time :-) ) we shouldn't have a problem. The specs from this picture seems to be like I mentioned above, the final board will have USB2 and IEEE1394, apparently.

I don't see the point in comparing this with the latest PC or console specs.
Before we can get the software that would make a difference we need at least a million OS/4 users. In the mean time it makes sense to go for mid level specs and compare what we're getting with the best OS3.9 machine available.
Not too dusty IMHO! ;-)

olegil
09-19-2003, 06:32 AM
Bah, you're obviously wrong ;-)

This is an outrage, there are entry level servers with more CPU power than a low-level Amiga. We can't live with this. Eyetech needs to provide us with at least a gazillion million instructions per second, at no cost and using no power (I need to use it from a penlight battery).
