Typical, you wait ages and then you get new games to buy all at once.

With only one week to go to, we have the pleasure to announce that there will be THREE new Amiga games releases for you to buy at the World of Amiga Southeast Show 2002.

(In alphabetical order)

Quake II. - Hyperion-Entertainment/ID Software.
A game that needs no introduction. Yes! Not only will you be able to play QUAKE II at WOASE on the Amiga Area, but thanks to some nifty work by the guys at Hyperion, you will be able to buy it as well! Copies are being sent by special courier from Germany to the UK, in time for the show! Be amongst the first to own Quake II on the Amiga.

I doubt you'll see that in this show.

Would be a nice surprise however,

May I suggest one of the Hoyle line of card games? At least Mr.
Gadd would be able to play with a full deck.

...just a joke, don't hit me.

@Paul_gadd

Credit where credits due, they have managed to get a game that used to run on a 100's of MHz's machine with 10's of Mb of memory, onto our beloved(?) platform.

It may not be the latest game, but I know I don't have the £10,000+ to pay a company to get the rights to port, say Hitman2, over to the Amiga, and I doubt any Amiga company can spare that sort of cash!

Hyperion`s done a damn good job which i respect them for it but i dont see how such old games are even good for the amiga`s, if they want to attract the die hards then fair enough but try to get non amiga users to the amiga by offering them something NEW.

Do you ever have anything positive to say? Did you ever think some of us who actually OWN Amigas or who are going to buy an AmigaOne wouldn't mind being able to play deathmatches on their favorite machines?

Not all of us on play pirated warez on UAE you know.

Ok, that's a little better.

1 game, no matter what game it is will NOT attract new users. OS4 on fairly modern hardware has a better chance and this is where their efforts are going to right now. Quake II was just a relatively easy port that many of us would like to have running native on our boxes.

This is so typical of Amiga users.

Look people, one minute it's no software, the next it's that it's not a current release. The fact that Hyperion has managed to pull this off while dedicating most of its resources to OS4 is worth considerable kudos. I'd certainly rather see Quake 2 running on a demo machine than lines and boxes.

Well the source was only released this year. I supposed that Hyperion and no one else wanted to pay for thesource knowing it would eventualy be released?

Try porting new games like UT2003, gta3, mafia..... Its totally impossible, the hardware just isnt up2date anymore, even q2 is pushing the limits...

...which is probably one of the reasons why Hyperion are so keen on the OS4 project. There's not a lot you can do with a PPC604@200MHz and lots of horrendous context switches. On the other hand, a 600MHz box plus a PPC-native OS opens up a lot of doors. Throw in a nice 3D accelerator and the Amiga goes from a hacked 15-year old technology to clean 3-year old tech. Not up to snuff yet, but a lot of things went from "to get 18fps I must sacrifice a chicken" to "this will take a few weeks to do" :-D

Quake II

Whoopedidodah! Not far away from one of my favourite PC-games-of-all-times-deluxe then, Anachronox! :-) Based on the Quake II engine, it would be a blast on a miggy!
(hopefully the source will be released in a near future. Perhaps even before 2020? :-))
