I wonder if it would be possible to convert emulated serial port calls into real TCP/IP calls, so that two PCs could play say Stunt Car Racer or Populous 2 on a TCP/IP LAN.

Any reasons why not?

I wish those pathetic lowlife platforms,
like amiga,
could just clear the way
for the better, more sofisticated,
cooler, more userfriendly, more powerfull os,
of wich Windows is.

TCP/IP is a full network protocol, serial is just a series of on/off messages on 9/15 pin wire. It's not possible to directly change one into the other.

Although...it's theoretically possible in WinUAE to encode the serial calls to TCP/IP messages through a certain port, with configuration of the target IP and such.

@Imbe

Calm down man. If everyone used a real amiga then you'd have about 300 people visit this site a week. You might want to lock yourself away from reality, we don't.

I realised that, and also an app requiring direct pin access to a NIC's UTP port would probably require some major work, a device driver and admin privs :-) I'm not recommending that approach :-)

At worst a DirectPlay (part of DirectX) implementation might make matters easier, though that would lose WinUAE -> UAE inter-operability in this respect.

UAE and WinUAE should have full a PowerPC emulator and WorpOS support.

UAE and WinUAE should also have full HAM support added.

@Imbe

FFS change the record, if it aint complaining about people downloading 80s Amiga software its Amiga emulators.

Amiga emulators have done a wonderful job keeping the rotten Amiga corpse from disintegrating, better than your criminal heroes at A Inc.

@mikeymike

Great idea.

KennyR.

Have you ever seen an emulator trying to emulate amiga?
Its an UGLY sight.

If it were such a masochistic exercise I wouldn't bother doing it. However, I can emulate my real Amiga (http://www.legolas.com/amiga/myamiga.html) spec as good as it works normally, on my PC (http://www.legolas.com/mikes/mypc.txt). Games work perfectly well on it. ADF access is faster [than floppy] with WinUAE's new access speeds.

So I disagree entirely with what you're saying :-)

Yes, Imbe, I have seen UAE. It's not a match for a high-specced Amiga (speed or not), and it's not a match in any way for a Pegasos (or an A1, when it gets OS4). I know it's inferior, but some people do use it. Respect their choice, it is theirs to make.

i use WinUAE on my laptop because that's the easist way at the moment to use amiga programs on that system.

i'll eventually get a pegasos and maybe an AmigaOne.

where does it say a person can't have several computers for different purposes?

And i still have my real amigas!
