Hi all...

Got a bargain basement A1000 from the local Craigslist coming this week and I'm wondering about creating a bootable kickstart for it. I've got licensed ROMs from AmigaForever, and a Catweasel on my pc.

To create a Kickstart Disk do I simply name a disk "Kickstart" and copy the 1.3 ROM file on the disk?

Been about 21 years since I've had an A1000 to play with!

Thanks for the help!

This (http://aminet.net/package/util/misc/WriteKickDisk) should get you going. The AmigaForever ROM files are encrypted, so you'll have to do everything from within the emulation (like grabbing the Kickstart image). The Catweasel should then be able to dump the resulting ADF to a real disk.

Yes that will allow you to make a Kickstart disk. The disk is a special format disk and you cannot view the contents in AmigaDOS.

I just created a cool KickWork (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=32883) disk! It has Kickstart 1.3 on it and WB 1.3 ;)

Thanks for the link, Matt!

I also have an A500 with a 1.3 rom I could grab so I'll have a number of opportunities to get a legal ROM for the disk....

Looking forward to getting home and seeing what I've got on Wednesday!

Not heard of a KickWork disk but I can understand the need if you had, say a BBS or a TV Guide channel running on your A1000.

Eh? The idea is you can cold boot to WB from a single disk. What has BBS or TV Guide got to do with that?

So if there's a hard crash the system will boot back to a to its operating state without user intervention :-)

Thanks Matt!

Picked up the A1000 today...it had a Kick 1.1 and 1.2 so I'll likely cobble together a 1.3 Kick and workbench this weekend.

Great computer...had Aegis Animator, JDK fonts, Deluxe Paint II, Aegis Draw, and the Amiga Extras and manuals. Not bad for $10!

I think I'm going to keep a better eye on Craigslist!

Thanks to all for answering my Kickstart questions!

Now all you need to add is a hard drive! I just added a 540Mb external hard drive through a Microbotics SCSI interface. Makes a nice setup.
