Just won a Piccolo off eBay for £93. Don`t know much about them though, and the Big Book of Amiga Hardware has only limited info on it - maybe you lovely people can help me.

I`m using an A4000/040 with a 1084s (now for sale incidentally) in High-res interlace for use with OctaMED Soundstudio.

Am I right in thinking I can get a much better resolution using a VGA monitor and the Piccolo without any flicker??

The card comes from America - this shouldn`t be a problem ie PAL / NTSC shouldn`t be an issue. Is this right??

Will my Amiga`s Workbench 3.9 generally run a bit quicker & Look a bit prettier?? (I hardly ever play games - that`s what the CD32 is for)

How dramatic is the difference between AGA and the Piccolo??

Phew... Thanks folks!!!

Incidentally, did I pay too much (£110 inc. postage)???

If your using it with Octamed then you should be good to go. Octamed can display on any RTG Workbench screen that the Piccolo will display.

I would keep the 1084 plugged into the original Amiga output so you can see anything that does not promote to the Piccolo screen though....

Would I have been better off with a Cybervision 64/3D ??

The Cybervision64/3D has a better graphic chip and more memory but it depends on what you want the RTG display for.

If you want a better then AGA resolution workbench to run not so intensivly graphic apps like Octamed then you will be fine with the Piccalo.

If you wanted to surf the internet and do more modern things then the cybervision probably would have been a better choice.

The price was a bit high but with the Piccolo you will be able to use a standard VGA monitor instead of that old 1084 as your main view.

You just need to keep the 1084 around just in case something comes up that the Piccolo cant display. Ex: old game/pre-workbench screen.
