Should an A600 work with a 1.2 Kickstart Rom (A500)?

I recently tried out an A600 I received without Kickstart ROM. The only one I had lying around was an A500 ROM, version 1.2. Is this supposed to work? The A600 only gave me a yellow screen and a blinking power LED. This is not the color code for a bad KS ROM (AFAIK), so I am afraid the A600 is faulty. :-?

Since you live in Germany, you can buy kickstart 2.05 roms + workbench from vesalia.de for 20 euro.

i think can't work, because, the KS1.2 does not have support to the PCMCIA, IDE, and i dont know if it can work with FULL ECS.

If i myth be wrong, anyone correct me (sorry for my bad english).

Sounds reasonable, 1.2 probably only works with OCS. Encourages me to rip apart one of my other 600s and try...

It should work just fine, except that you obviously lose PCMCIA and IDE.

I can verify that a 1.3 ROM works fine, since I have tested it in an A600. It'd be fair to say that a 1.2 ROM would work fine to. But, as Piru stated, not all parts of the 600 will be functional...

1.3roms worked for me too(no ide or pcmcia).The rom is smaller than the socket just like the A1200.
I did the same mistake(10years ago),lucky for me no damage was done unlike my A1200 2 years ago.

I plugged in a 2.05 ROM from another 600 and it works. Of course this only proves that this particular 1.2 ROM doesn't... Anyway, good to see the 600 isn't broken.

Where is your IF command (and various other things that are built-in in KS2+)?

This caught my interest, so I tried the OS 1.2 ROM in an A500 -> works. Tried the 1.3 ROM which I took from that 500 in the A600 -> works aswell. Piru, I still can't believe you were wrong... :lol:

This thread helped me repair a broken A600 i have :-)

I once borrowed the ROM for a A500 projekt (or something?) because my A600 did not work. I found and replaced some caps an only had a kick 1.2 to test with.

I tried a 1.3 a few minutes ago.. And it works :-)

I had the same symptoms as descriped, constantly flashing power led.

YAY! I learned something today :-D
