well, try using newmode (not 100% sure, but i think it was called newmode) or a similiar program to force the game to open a gfx-card screen.

No, If I remember right there is no chance to get sim city 2000 to work on a gfx-card...
I was lucky because I had an CV64-3D with scandoubler and so it worked...

Umm...I run SimCity 2000 on a Voodoo screen here without much problems.
It was a bit tricky, but here's how you need to do it:
Use ModePro or NewMode, choose a 640x480 screenmode (other resolutions won't work), and check off the "Force Planar" option.
I don't know anything about a-train, but you should take a look at GFX-Base (www.gfxbase.com) for a good list of AGA/ECS games that are mode promotable.
Also a last ditch option would be to get a TV-Card and use the A1200's composite out (or use an A520 for a big box Amiga) to pipe it into the TV-Card. You can then play your AGA/ECS games on a fullscreen using a utility like Tickly's SuperTV for Mediator systems.

If you've got a Voodoo 3 system and a half decent 68k CPU (040/060) you could always runs ShapeShifter and play the MUCH faster (even under emulation) MAC version of Sim City 2000.

If you get a TV card, you can easily show AGA games and demos on your voodoo.
Edit:
@Zadoc:
Oops! Looks like you beat me to it :-D
Really!!!!
I can play old games on my voodoo with tv-card and Tickly dream software?????? :-o

Sounds interesting, can someone explain how this tv card showing pal games on VGA monitor works?
Doesnt games take over the whole system, or does it only work with system friendly apps and games? including whd load games?

@ Tickly
I use superTV in windowed mode. I assume you go from the comp out on the A1200 to the comp in on the TV card, but how does it cope with system takeovers etc ?????????????? :-?
Hmm, I was told the quality is not very good using a TV card, but I guess it goes the job done, if nothing else works...

Damn TV card!
I can't even get it to show TV channels!
I tried that AGA through TV card! No luck for me!
Only things that work on TV card are VCR, and
Sony Playstation!
On Amiga-mediator mailing list I noticed that person with same TV card and same GFX card has
same problems as me!
GFX card: Voodoo3 2000
TV card: Pinnacle PCTV Rage
TV Card costed me 80 Euros! And It's not working!
BTW SuperTV is Great program, Mr.Gordon maybe you should try to add automatic channel search :-D

There is an alternative too...:
1. Get a Flickerfixer/Scandoubler
2. Get a decent dual input monitor
3. Attach the Scandoubler to the Amiga's RGB
4. Attach a BNC cable to the monitor & scandoubler.
And, you're set ;) AGA on your monitor :)
Well aren't we the clever one Gerbinist ;-)

I can't even get it to show TV channels!]I can't even get it to show TV channels! It looks like you have not set the proper value of the Envarc:Mediator/tuner variable.

You can try the TvR program from http://ppa.ltd.pl/software/download/tvr.lha.
This is also very nice TV GUI for Mediator and it has the channel scan option.
But first check if your tuner variable is set accordingly to the description in the front end installed on your TV card.
