Hi,
I'm sure this has been asked a million times before, but I couldn't see any suitable threads when I searched. I have a P3 laptop on which I would like to run an amiga emulator. Currently it doesn't have an operating system, so what is best, and what are the differecies, I'd just use it for messing abour really, I've a A1200 for playing games, however if I could play games on the move this would be a bonus.
Should I get a copy of windows and run UAE, or put Aros on it, then should I do this be hosted natively, on Linux or windows, what other options do I have?

Thanks in advance
Rob

If it is games you want... then WinUAE would be your best option... it probably has the best support for playing games considering the other alternatives.

If you get Linux you can run E-UAE (http://rcdrummond.net/uae/) just as easily as WinUAE for Windows. I'd recommend downloading both, however, since the UAE drivers for AHI that come with WinUAE will work with the x86 version of E-UAE as well.

If you're running classic software there's no need to get AROS since there's E-UAE. Best of all the filesystem emulation will allow E-UAE to use the Linux filesystem without having some filenames come up funny. With Windows you're better off using hardfiles which are hard to get files into and out of unless you get a special utility.

If I may suggest if it's games you're after once you have WINUAE installed try downloading Lemonade (I have both installed on my laptop) it makes access to games really easy.

It shows a screenshot of the game and other information such as release date.

Try it I find it very good and easy to access.

I have been a big fan of the Amiga from the beginning and personally I have Amiga Forever installed on my laptop which allows me to play, yes, games but also allows me to do much more.

I have access to most of my back catalogue of Miga software, any 3D rendering I do, I do on my emulated Amiga.

Windows + WinUAE is clearly the best option from emulation standpoint (be in plain WinUAE + AmigaOS installed separately, or Amiga Forever). AROS is no emulator anyway.
